In response to the Michigan championship their boosters have gone nuts throwing stupid money around like there’s no tomorrow.
It’s why they got Caleb Downs and it’s why they’re signing blue chip prospects. Theyre giving guys rookie NFL money to play up there and you can’t blame a prospect for taking it.
Every one is throwing around money nowadays and it's legal and everyone does it. Caleb went to Bama because he wanted to play for Saban..... That was the reason he didn't go to Ohio State as they were a close 2nd. When Saban retired Downs jumped.

One of Alabama's highest ranked recruits in their 2nd ranked Class is an Edge Rusher from Cincinnati.
I guess that means Alabama has to recruit Ohio to be relevant

This is really easy. I grew up there (and got the hell out after college).

Columbus ranks 14th in population in the entire nation.
It's bigger than Seattle, San Francisco, Denver, Nashville, Boston.
Slight correction, it's 14th by city proper, 32nd by MSA. It's smaller than all the cities listed except Nashville, but it is bigger than Cleveland which really surprised me

I've been to Tuscaloosa & Columbus,
The only thing Tuscaloosa has on Columbus is the weather, that is assuming you don't like cold winters & you don't mind hot/sticky Southern summers.
Columbus is a very nice city, I don't know why people have to get so goofy with their hate.

Cleveland is over 3 million in metro population. Columbus is over 2 million.

3. Has a history of winning, in percentage as well as trophies
Ohio State has played in a total of 55 bowl games to date.
OSU has a record in those bowl games of 26-29-0
In other words, you play cupcakes except for Michigan and then can't hold your bladder against real competition from other parts of the country.
By the way, Michigan has an under .500 bowl record too.

Do you actually believe that?

Yeah, it’s pretty clear to see that this Updyke has severe penis envy and didn’t do a hint of research.
Why don’t you Google “most profitable college football programs”, try reading it, maybe sound out the words if you can, and take two excedrine for any headaches.

Columbus is a big market for college town standards
It has a bigger population than 2 cities that have NFL and MLB franchises (and one with an nba franchise).

you're a complete moron if you think schools like Texas and Florida etc can't compete with Ohio State money.

Ohio State owns Columbus.
It's by far the largest College Town in the country.

I disagree. Columbus has an NHL team and Austin is slightly larger in population with no pro teams.

Alabama and Ohio both have 2 of the best HS systems and the most loyal in-state fans.
Probably the 2 best.
Probably the 2 best.

Well, I guess slight edge to Austin for having Zero professional teams vs Columbus having NHL
But let's be honest, I don't think in Ohio that the NHL compares to NFL,NBA,MLB when it comes to competing with Ohio State Football.
I don't think Hockey is that big in Ohio, it's not like Ohio is Minnesota/Wisconsin

Agree with OP. Never understood why Ohio St was all that. Its like the whole sports world bows at their feet for no obvious reason.

- Huge state (population) with a great football culture (just look at all the MAC schools, which are pretty talented overall)
- Tons of talent
- Huge brand/football-focused school with no real instate competition (sorry Cincinnati).
- Consistent success with no real long draughts like Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, etc.
- Passionate fan base and alumni that want to win / will pour whatever resources necessary into the program to win
- Lots of great traditions (dotting the “i”, helmet stickers, “The Game,” etc)
- The falloff of Pennsylvania football talent (Penn State) has made it easier for them to maintain success
- Notre Dame and Michigan, until recently, being down made them the lone Midwestern program for 20 or so years.

It's nil, getting plenty of guys to the draft, a few great coaches(Larry Johnson +hartline/tim walton). They are a top 2 team in the big 10.
