Meh. This is more prevalent with Bama right now.

There are three elite teams this year: Texas, Oregon, and Ohio State. There is a drop off after that.
From the BCS era into the 4 team CFP era that’s typically what we’d see. Most years there are only 2-3 truly elite teams that could win it all.

Kind of similar in 2007. Could it be this?

It explains it perfectly. When you have 20-30% of players coming in out the portal it’s a learning gap that requires new system to learn and team. I think it all plays a small part. That and not many kids are buying to the ownership of a university and being all in

Dude STFU. You’re just saying that because the great Bama lost to Vandy. There’s more parity but Ole Miss LSU is a way better matchup than Bama vs fricking Vandy. Vandy may not win another SEC game this year.

How did Bama’s superiority complex turn into an inferiority complex so quickly

Just guessing the mega gambling getting into prop get fixes beyond usual fixes

NIL money + Transfer Portal. Smaller schools now have 4 and 5* players that used to ride the bench at bigger and crooked schools.

Other programs are more dominant now… bama is not part of this exclusive club anymore. Welcome back!

Every team has an equal chance of buying the same player now. Every team now has good players, hell South Alabama had 9 SEC transfers sign with them. Parity

Buying a. Selling of players will be the end of college football

And college football was never supposed to be like this

Think about it, these kids already have millions in the bank. College football is no longer a stepping stone to a great future in the NFL, it is the NFL. Players don't care as much about winning, their teammates, or much of anything. Wait to see how a team like Ole Miss mails it in, now that they are out of the playoff race.

Paid players, no contracts, players can leave every season, NFL still has the "pro" prestige marker, coaches are afraid of challenging players too much, players now can dictate terms or mail it in to "save their bodies for the pros".
College football is about to look like option-heavy high school ball and is already trending in that direction. As it becomes more obvious who has resources and who doesn't, investment in these programs is going to drop off and the game will hyperfocus to a handful of teams, but it will be a bad level of football with none of the charm or accessibility that built college football to where it is now. Basically, it will be living and dying on TV contracts and if those overinflated things fall through, college football is toast.

Not really. They don’t play bama, ole miss, Missouri, LSU or Tennessee. Their tough game is Georgia, but Oklahoma has a lot of Injury’s and a blind true freshman QB who wore a diaper the whole game. They got lucky with their schedule.

I’m still not convinced we have parity. It feels like any other season. The same teams are basically in the top ten and making the playoffs.

It kinda makes sense. You have a bunch of talented players transferring into programs all over the country where they have to learn a new system, new terminology, new teammates, etc. So the talent is more evenly distributed, but there is less individual team continuity across the board as well.
Then, throw in NIL on top of that. You have transfers getting tons of money thrown at them and they start making plenty of money and don't focus on getting better every day at practice. It used to be that the goal was to make it to the NFL to make millions. Now a player can make half a million or more for a single cfb season. No, it isn't generational wealth, but it is definitely enough to make an 18-21 year old lose focus.

Getting paid doesn’t make these kids play harder or put in more time to work on fundamentals. It does the opposite for various reasons.
Introducing financial incentives shifts players’ priorities from developing their skills and performing for the love of the game and earning a spot in the NFL to chasing personal financial gain.

The quality of play this year is dog shite. Awful tackling, awful offensive line play, awful execution in general. It’s been exciting don’t get me wrong, but from top to bottom the quality of play has been painful by every team this season.
Completely agree
