FMV, as in what would his services be worth to a school if it were legal to negotiate and pay player? 2 million, minimum.

Ask DUKE...their final offer was the one that landed him. All of the other offers to ZION did not get accepted. The only accurate answer is: ASK DUKE

Well, we know for a fact that Zion’s dad turned down $160k from Kansas so it has to be much higher than that.

I’m wagering a guess that Duke paid him $200k+.

Chris Webber got $250K and that was 30 years ago. I can't imagine what Zion was negotiating

I went back to look it up, since Webber was busted and the numbers are out there.

Webber got upwards of $250K over his 3 years at Michigan. He'd been paid by a Ford Motors executive from Detroit since the 8th grade.

Maybe a 1 time payment of $250K is about right for Zion

The value to a program like Duke is probably less as they will pack their arena and sell lots of merchandise regardless. To a team like Missouri, he’s probably worth $1M for a year.

Ticket revenue, donations and merchandising would all probably make a $1M payout justifiable. 2,000 tickets sold per game at just $25/ticket would cover the $1M.

Mizzou is pretty much the case study for this. In 2017, average attendance was 9,930 (sold tickets, no way they had anywhere near that many folks in the building each game). Last year, with the #1 recruit coming in, they sold out the building for the season, 15,061. Difference of 5,131. Let's say MPJr wasn't the sold reason, but I'd say he was worth an extra 4,000 season tickets a game for a program like Missouri. That's double what 808bass says, and 2017 was pretty much the absolute apex of the abyss that was Mizzou basketball under KA, so the average bump probably is closer to 2,500-3,000 folks in most years. 3,000 folks x 17 home games x $25 = $1,275,000 in tickets alone.

Now again, as 808bass said, the difference in ticket sales for Duke vs. Mizzou is huge on a per player basis as Duke sells out regardless, but for most of the schools in the SEC I'd say value is >$1,000,000, which is bonkers.

That's been taken out since Rhett Bomar.

We're talking about Coach K, who had a freaking AMEX commercial running DURING THE FINAL FOUR.

Hell, Zion could have a corporate sponsor pay his signing fee for all we know

BOOM!

To think Capital One Visa hasn't been funneling huge amounts of cash into the "system" for freaking years is naive. Those Charles Barkley/Spike Lee/Sam L Jackson commercials run non-stop during March Madness - they run them FOR March Madness.

This money trail is big time Corporate business now. From major shoe companies to freaking credit card companies.

We’ll see. If Duke doesn’t make the Final Four, it probably wasn’t, especially if it causes them to get investigated (it won’t). It’s not like they needed Zion to sell tickets/merch or even to make the Big Dance though, but Duke paid him in excess of $300k with little to no doubt, or else he would’ve been playing in Lawrence

The discussion of paper trails has got me wondering if any Crypto is being used. While it may be beyond the comfort/savvy of many recruits and their families it certainly would be one way to muddy the money trail with the handler on the family end doing the conversion back to cash.

Whatever it is its not enough. Especially since Coach K can't seem to win without him.

I think it easily could be over $1M after accounting for all forms of compensation (cash, house, cars, job, etc.)

There are levels to this shite. Imo, coach K would be on that crypto level. The untraceable option.

Zion’s parents new crib looks fresh too! Good for them.

That's another advantage basketball has over football. Smaller number of highly sought after recruits means agents and runners are much more effective and handle more signings. I would bet anything that Crypto is used a good bit
