Much like the families of the Titans of industry, you can lose your way out of the club, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Texas and USC are a long way from their Glory days. OUs glory is losing to whoever they play in the play off.

The landscape has changed tremendously over the past 15 years. Nebraska may never be back and Notre Dame is as good as they can be and it's still not good enough. Michigan suffers a little of the same thing as ND. Texas/USC can do it but not with out the exact right coach.

Majority of that list is living in a way back machine.

Winless seasons don't look "very good".

Also...

2000-2007: Alabama 32-46 (0.410) doesn't look "very good".

Looking over all these threads, WildT.....looks like you've come unglued over all these folks pointing out the inferiority of the LSU football program compared to the blue bloods. Don't take it so hard...y'all got a trophy to be proud of.

Try to find a single post where I claim LSU is better than Alabama.

I just find it funny how fans of the best program in America feel like they have to make shite up to try to make their program look even better.

It's very subjective.

I'd list these 8 All-Time:
Notre Dame, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Texas, USC, alabama, and Nebraska. (Based on # of: all-time NCAA victories, bowl games, rankings, All-Americans, Heismans, Conference titles, stadiums, fan bases, mystique and reputation.).

I'd list the following as almost Blue Bloods:
LSU -(Now in the Top Ten in # of National Titles and #7 in bowl apps), then Tennessee, Penn State, and Georgia.

Near misses: Miami, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, and Minnesota.

Some Hon Men: Army, Florida, TCU, Wisconsin, Princeton, Oregon, Yale, Washington, Iowa, Arizona State, Colorado, Syracuse, UCLA, Michigan St., North Dakota State.

Others:
Texas A&M, West Va., Ole Miss, Tulane, Stanford, Rutgers, Boise State, Illinois, Kansas, Boston College, UCF, UNC, Va.Tech, KSU, Okla St, BYU, Cal, Louisville, Maryland,
Columbia, Dartmouth.

A mixture of a program's relevance over at least a couple of generations + to what degree the school and it's fanbase takes saturdays in the fall seriously. Championship likely required

I realistically think there's more than 10 in football. It's not like basketball where there's a universal 5-6 programs that are always good every year (most of which have the color blue as an official school color)

Not false. Tell me who has done it then. Florida and Florida State have 3, so does Clemson. That's who is closest, maybe I'm missing someone else, but only 10 have 4. That's it.

Texas has 4 in that same era.
Unless you’re saying only the AP matters which would be interesting considering 2003.

Why 8? Why not 6 or 5?

I really don't think Texas belongs in there. Playing in the Texas league for 100 years will pad your stats. I'm not even sure I'd lump Nebraska in there. I mean, they're no Oklahoma. Also, Nebraska wasn't recognized by anyone as a national champ before 1970. They only claim 5 NCs: 1970, 1971, 1994, 1995, 1997. Texas only claims 4.

Fair assessment. Good points. Some of those 8 have not reached their long past accomplishments in a long time..

A school that was once relevant, that is no longer relevant, but needs a title to make them still feel relevant.

That is a blue blood.

THIS

Bingo.

If I were to add anything (and I probably wouldn't), it would be something about racking up a frick-load of meaningless wins against deliberately subpar competition a al the Harlem Globe Trotters v. Georgia Generals.

You can easily identify them because fans of blue blood teams like to start/respond to any argument with historical facts that are completely irrelevant to current events.

Where did you dredge this fantasy up from? Neither WT nor anyone else has said anything close to what your're making up.
Also, LSU is not 'inferior' anyway to the usually listed 8 'Blue Bloods.'
Why?
*We are one of only TEN (10) programs to win four national titles (5 if you count 1908).
*We are #7 in bowl game apps.
*We are right behind UGA for #11 nationally in All-Time # of NCAA victories.
*We have 2 Heisman winners.
*We have numerous All-Americans and award winners, and Scholastic All-American and Draddy Award winners.
*We have the loudest and craziest (and 5th largest) stadium.
*We have a mystique, history, aura and reputation that goes back 128 years.
*We have one of the largest alumni and fan bases of any university in the United States.
*We have the best tailgating (along with Penn State and Ole Miss.)
*We have one of the best Academic Center for Student Athletes in the nation.
*We have the best marching band in the nation - The Gooooolden Band From Tigerland and the beautiful Golden Girls.
*We have the best Pre-Game (along with Ohio State, Florida State, A&M, and Oklahoma).

A program that has consistently been a powerhouse throughout most of college football history.

That eliminates Texas and Nebraska.

I guess that's fair. Although, if going by your last stat, that would mean that LSU baseball isn't a blueblood because they didn't win a national championship until 1991. However, anybody that pays attention to college baseball would undoubtedly have LSU as at least a top 4 baseball program of all time with a very credible argument for being the best of all time.

I (admittedly biased obviously) would give Texas a nod because of stats that span over a lifetime, such as all-time wins, all americans, weeks ranked in top 25, top 10, etc. That said, they've definitely cost themselves some of that right by being as bad as they've been in the past 10 years, and Nebraska as well for the last 20 years, so I get your point.

I'd still say that you can't really limit football bluebloods to just 8, and that 12-15 teams would be more accurate.
