Total bullshite. Accusations from an Auburn fan, that's rich. ... Cam Newton says hey... How many players got paid by that yellawood gay cowboy?

So those dodge chargers, Cadillacs, free suits, and furniture store giveaways were only for tide players. Not to mention the house sitter jobs for the players family. GTFO with your crap.

Ok but there is at least the opportunity to make money. If I am a billionaire, I'm not dumping $100 million on a college roster just so they win some games.

I think you aren't quite getting what I'm saying.

They don't really care. They all tend to blow millions on their interests.

And nobody has been dumping 100 million on the portal.

Elon Musk did dump billions on Twitter just to troll the left. Losing money hand over fist and doesn't give a crap

Billionaires buy $200 million boats to use them once a year. They don't fricking care man.

Done - Oregon

Nah... Nike/Knight is spending money there, but he's also taking care not to antagonize his paying customers (the other teams that contract with Nike) too much.

Case in point- LSU's recruiting class. Until Michigan flipped Underwood, LSU had the #1 QB, #1 RB and #1 cornerback. Michigan flipped Underwood but the RB and Corner both came to LSU (and are now early-enrolled).

What OP is talking about would be if Knight were to drop the cash to flip all 3 for Oregon, and hit UGA/Bama/Ohio State's classes for every star there too. Basically buy the #1 (and #2) prospects at every position, for multiple classes, and build a team with basically all 1st rd talent two-three deep at every position. You process out who doesn't emerge in the competition (let them hit the portal), and then buy everyone productive in the portal each year.

If Knight did that at Oregon, then just about every other team would go to Adidas or Underarmor, in protest... but there's nothing in the rules that would stop him. Or any other bored billionaire from doing the same thing.

I think SMU will try; they maneuvered themselves into a relatively weak but respected conference (ACC), foregoing the TV money in the process, just to get into playoff-eligible position. It worked, they didn't even win their conference but by making the championship, they got a bid... with a relatively crappy team. They can now sell that to future recruits, and point out that A&M (and Bama for that matter) didn't get in, too much competition in the SEC. Come to SMU and if you're good, you get in.

Same old Internet rumors...

Speaking of SMU... How wild is it that smu got a death sentence for paying players only to now have a billionaire legally paying players... And they got to the playoffs?!!

Correct, and specifically WOMENS college basketball. Just buy a couple of 6 ft 11 inch big guys and a talented male point guard, mix in some talented high school girls looking for the cash, and win four years straight.

You KNOW it’s coming.

The problem with that is that they would want to control the program inside and out and basically be the owner...deciding many things that they have no business deciding. Roster moves, which player plays, etc.

This is what hurt Texas in the post-Mack Brown era. There is such a thing as having too much money.

Mack Brown was the last coach who could effectively manage all the boosters who felt they had a right to meddle because they cut a fact check AND coach a football team at the same time. Strong and Herman couldn't and it showed.

Now athletic departments have insulated the coach from it by creating GM slots, etc..

You mean like how basically every major college program is backed by multiple billionaires, right now?
