I don’t mean a national title contender. There’s only 3 teams in my opinion that really have a shot at that right now. We are back in the sense that we are a competent team capable of beating most teams, we’re also capable of losing to quite a few teams.

Similar politics up top to what Tennessee had to endure after Fulmer was gone.

It’s not resources r Texas would be top 5 every year. it’s discipline. you don’t want mega boosters writing 10 million checks strutting around and interfering, you 1000 people writing 100,000 checks and not asking for shite. Bama has the perfect system

Boosters got too big for their britches. The entire athletic department has been riddled with nepotism for decades. Boosters need to shut their mouths and open their checkbooks for an AD that can do his job. Then they need to get the hell out of the way

And I need Scarlet Johansson to blow me. Which do you think is more likely?

Stopped recruiting offensive linemen in 2012.

All the rest you see is just a product of #1.

Everyone has resources. The rise of UGA probably also has them down. They used to be able to recruit Atl.

Bama and Georgia being so dominant is definitely fricking up their recruiting. But Harsin also sucks at it. It's a perfect storm.

AUs recruiting issues have nothing to Bama or UGA. AU found 3 and 4 stars and made the All- Americans, the recruiting services are for money more than information. AUs problem has been the recruiters and not the program. Gus got lazy and Harsin was clueless.

verpaid for Gus, hired a coach who ran a system without the personnel to run said system, have done everything to undermine said coach starting in the first year on the job, and said new coach being lazy on the recruiting trial. With the transfer portal and removal of transfer penalties making it easy now for players to jump ship, things can fall apart in a hurry. Look at LSU. They went from one of the best seasons ever in the modern era to going 5-5, 6-7 and starting the calendar year with 39 scholarship players. The good thing is, while things can fall apart more quickly due to the reasons stated above, likewise, things can be built back quicker than it used to take as well.

With the support and resources Auburn has, there's no reason this has to set them back for a long time if they sort things out appropriately and make the right hire (assuming Harsin is out)

Nice summation.

Mainly just Saban buying all the instate recruits. Before that Auburn was walking all over Bama and had the players to stay at the top.

Sounds like a development issue.

That was the biggest problem under Gus, at least on the Offensive side of the ball. TT could develop players and we know about Dye. Both could recruit, until TT feared the thumb issues and got lazy.
