So by your definition Bryant wouldn't be among the greatest of all time? He'd be the first to tell you that he wasn't an innovator. He was just able to roll with the times and win football games the old fashioned way.

He's the only coach to win titles at two different schools
If you want to get technical, Jim Tressel won 3 national titles at Youngstown State before OSU. Also, Bear Bryant's 1950 Kentucky team finished first in the Sagarin rankings although that was not a major selector at the time.

You mean like the '09 team did? They played the second toughest schedule in the country and became the first team in college football history to defeat #1 and #2 in back-to-back games.

My serious thought, who cares? Haters will not believe it and believers will hate that. Matching the two head to head would be worth price of admission. That said, noone has pulled the threepeat.

Win a National Championship at some place that's never won one before.

Alabama had never won one before. Haven't you heard? College football didn't exist before the year 2000.

For an "attorney" with precious billable hours, you sure post...or play a lot. Not buying any of it.

Check that. Won at LSU himself and then Miles won it with Saban's players.

But to completely separate himself from guys like Bear, Bowden, Osborne, or even Paterno, he REALLY needs more than 1 undefeated season IMO.

This. To me he has already surpassed Bear Bryant simply because the competition is better. But for him to lock up the "best ever" title to me he needs a Bud Wilkinson-like string of wins. Good luck getting to 47-0!

FWIW it's really not good to to ask the rant about what they think.....most everything isn't up to rant standards...so you'll never get an honest answer...

He is damn close. Winning the way he won has in the modern world is very impressive.
