I don’t see them winning the west, but he’s a very capable coach and his team plays hard as hell for him. Think he’s where he should be. I think they’ll give Bama all they can handle Saturday.

If Pittboss continues improving the talent, yes, hogs can win the west. The culture is in place, the coaching fraternity loves Pittman (rightfully) almost universally. He should be able to fill vacancies pretty well.

Talent is ticking upwards. Overall, Pittman has Arkansas back to being a team nobody is excited to play.

Not a chance. They have more systemic problems than a coach.

I like Pittman. He's a good guy, a great recruiter and a great coach. He's done well turning around a horrible team in 2 years, and I think he will continue to do well. It's very premature given the changing dynamics of the SEC over then next 5 years, but I could see him having Arkansas as a contender for the West if things continue to progress.

Says the 4-6 team two years removed from a Natty that has been to ATL once in the last decade.

I like Pittman, wouldn’t mind having a few beers with the guy.

Arkansas, stayed there a few time, nice

Pittman is a class act. He's soft-spoken but he doesn't coach that way. His offense plays to his defensive principles and his program looks much more sustainable in the long run. I truly believe college football will be rethinking a lot of these values in a few more seasons. Watch for the pendulum to swing back to the defensive side.

don't see it myself.

In fact, I don't see how Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Arkansas or A&M ever win the West. I guess LSU or A&M winning the west either. Why do I say this?

Bama will most likely win it the next year or so and then:

The west won't exist after OK and Texas additions. Pods are coming, get ready.

I'm really hoping for the 3 Permanent and 6 Rotating structure as opposed to straight Pods. For A&M that would be Texas, LSU, and Arkie and then rotate the rest but with 6 in rotation (home and home with half and then home and home with the other half). Pods make it difficult because Texas would want to play OU every year and A&M would rather play LSU for instance. It gets just as complicated with every Pod. I don't know how you preserve the rivalry games with Pods (UGA/UF, UGA/Auburn, Auburn/Bama, UT/Bama, at least one would go away). A 3 plus 6 allows them to stay intact and creates a better product.

The SECCG likely goes away with a 12 or 16 team playoff.

As to the OP Pittman is a great coach for Arkie but outside of a perfect alignment of the stars I don't see him winning the West in its current form. It's the difference between having a team that can win a big game vs a team that can run the table or close to it. The SECW is the most difficult division in College Football History where in any given year you have multiple teams that could win other Conferences. All outstanding coaches and talent and programs invested in success.

I think Pittman is the perfect coach for that program. I'm interested to see how they replace Baby Briles ...

Replacing Briles won’t be hard at all.

Odom will be the one I’m interested to see how we replace.

People want to work for Pittman so I believe he will get the coaches to work for him.

I think Pittman will keep us respectable and win around 8 games each year (bad year win 7) with maybe the chance to win 10 every few years.

It’s what Arkansas needed after Bert’s last couple years and the Chad experiment.

When Pittman retires he will leave the program in great shape which can’t be said for our last 3 coaches

I am a fan of Pittman. If he recruits at a high level the sky is the limit for Arkansas. I believe Arkansas is the type of program that can be dominant with the right coach. I think Pittman can be that coach.

No Arkansas has had a coaching problem since joining the SEC. Arkansas won the west with a check collector in Danny Ford and a used car salesman in Houston Nutt. Petrino was more of an OC than head coach and he would eventually fizzle out as he never had a good coaching staff. They were full of yes men.

Sam Pittman is the best Arkansas coach since Ken Hatfield that won who to back SWC titles.

If Sam can recruit better athletes on the offensive and defensive lines then that would a better possibility. That is something that Petrino, Bert and Chad failed to do.

If he gets more involved in the high schools of the state, like program building in Little Rock metro then that would help his own recruiting.

We’d be playing for a spot in ATL tomorrow if we converted a 2 pt conversion.

We have a Soph Qb, loaded young backfield, and Pittman is still building our lines.

I think by year four, both lines will be close to average depth in the SEC. Until then he has to go the portal route.

It's all about recruiting, plus a little luck.
I certainly believe he and and his assistants could coach them well enough.
If we had Bama or Georgia's recruits, then YES SIR!

Arkansas has to be more patient as other schools in the west maybe more restless.
