As to how these coaches left their prior jobs for better coaching opportunities, objectively, how was Kiffin's treatment of Ole Miss worse than the other two?

Why Ole Miss couldn’t let Lane coach the playoffs but Tulane/JMU most certainly could

Thread starter RNBReb

People keep comparing what Ole Miss did with Lane to what Tulane and JMU did with their coaches and it just does not add up.

Those guys took jobs at UF and UCLA and their schools let them finish out because there was no real BETRAYEL angle there and no real threat they were going to gut the roster on the way out. Lane left Ole Miss for LSU. That is our BIGGEST rival in the conference. That is not some neutral move up the ladder. That is crossing the street to the ENEMY!!!!

On top of that he lied about his intentions and as he was going out the door, and he was basically threatening to take as much staff and as many players with him as possible. You cannot hand a guy the keys to your playoff run when he has already chosen your rival and made it clear his PRIORITY is stripping your building for parts. At that point you are just surrendering, and trusting that his decisions somehow line up with what is best for Ole Miss. They did not!!!

Tulane and JMU are not in the same position we are. If they had yanked their coaches immediately, they would have been scrambling just to function in the playoff and there is almost zero realistic chance either one is actually winning the whole thing this year. Leaving for UF/UCLA really increases their long term shot at getting to that level. Lane did the opposite, he walked away from a CHAMPIONSHIP caliber Ole Miss team that is literalLEY in the playoff right now with a legit chance to make a run so he can chase what might happen later at LSU.

The other big difference is we were actually able to put a REAL plan in place. Ole Miss promtoted Pete Golding and got a full staff structure set for the playoff and kept the bulk of the roster together and held on to the entire 26 recruiting class. By cutting Lane off from the building we limited his ability to sit in our meeting rooms in our gear and quietly recruit guys for LSU while pretending to live in two worlds. If we had let him coach the playoff he would have had even more access to our team and comitts and the ATTRITION could have been brutal.

So yeah on the surface it looks cold to move on from a coach right before a playoff run. But once you factor in that he chose LSU lied and danced around it threatened to take staff and players and wanted to stay inside our walls while doing it there really was NO OTHER CHOICE. PROTECT OLE MISS!!! Back the staff that wants to be here. Ride with Pete and the guys who stayed. JMU and Tulane are playing a diffrent game. Our risk is higher our stakes are higher and we acted like it!!!

JM and Tulane realize this success was short term so they just enjoyed it. OM started to think this success wasn’t temporary and was who they actually are as a program. That’s a harder pill to swallow.

Tulane and JMU know they’re stepping stone programs. Ole Miss hasn’t come to grips with that yet. They were offended Lane would leave them.

Nothing really. The only difference is Ole Miss thought lane would be there forever and he was a forever coach.

Tulane / JMU know they are stepping stone jobs.

They went from G5 programs to SEC programs. Not rivals that they play against every year in the same conference.

I know critical thinking is hard for Tiger fans but that should be pretty easy to grasp

And before y’all say you’re not a rival, you’ve rushed the field 3 times in the last 11 years after beating us and it was y’all’s idea to name the game and give it a trophy

You keep reposting that ridiculously subjective article written by an ole miss cult homer like it's an nonpartisan, impartial fact of the matter piece of literary artwork when it's homer nonsense.

Stop it.

There is no difference, ole miss is just culty. That's the difference.

Go on campaigns to rehabilitate their image as scumbag human by doing a phony ESPN fakumentary, fake dog, lie about being run of the road as they ran out of town, try to hold those administrations hostage by going on this ridiculous prolonged drama queen let’s make it all about me instead of the team facade with signing an extension, lie about the team wanting him to still coach them and LSU at the same time…

I can keep going for you denial plagued corny dog dipshits if the point hasn’t gotten through.

That just explains why Ole Miss acted differently than Tulane and James Madison.

I just asked about the behavior of the respective COACHES.

imagine Nick Saban announcing he was taking the Alabama job the day after beating Georgia the SECCG on 12/6/03 but wanting to continue to coach LSU on 1/4/04 in the BCS title game against Oklahoma -

how would LSU fans have reacted to that?

What insecurity? I'm trying to understand the rationale for attacking Kiffin, but not Sumrall and Chesney.

Any coach in this situation would have done the same thing...in fact, we have proof...in a 12 team field, one quarter of the team's coaches notified their teams that they were leaving for better coaching opportunities.

He went to a RIVAL school in the same conference. Are you an idiot?

It does. Your beef is not HOW Kiffin left, but that he left for LSU.
