Two things

1) Reward the winning team with something that rewards both the school and players.

Player Example
Winning team gets $25k per player while losing team gets $10k per player. Adjust $$ up or down as needed.

School Example
Winning team gets to use the game for SOS purposes the following year, so they would have 13 data points instead of 12. Adjust as needed so it doesn’t completely distort the results, but it should be easy to test in the computer rankings.

2) Go to a 16 team playoff and a 16 team G5 playoff system. 2 Champs = better than 1 when the G5 team would never have a chance to win 3-4 games in a row in the current format. They’ll get lucky at some point and win 1 or 2, but 3-4 ain’t happening..

And the more teams that get in playoffs the worse the bowl games are going to be .

Get rid of them. Theres a playoff now. 6-7 win teams battling it out will never be must-see TV

Bowl games have never really mattered. The only post season games that have mattered are Conference Championships, playoff games with NC implications and the Championship game

Reduce the amount of them so that making a bowl game actually means something again.

The same thing is going to happen with playoff spots. The more they add, the less special they are.

I don't understand why money to players doesn't come with a contract spelling out each side's obligations, including being available to play in every game, including any post season play. Otherwise, give back the money.

When were so many of these bowl games relevant?

The only "relevant" bowl game ever played that wasn't one of the big New Years Day bowl games was the Holiday Bowl when BYU won the national title.

I agree. There is a lot of misplaced nostalgia and reimagined history on this board. People on the internet get a quick dopamine release when they post about the "good ol' days" is basically what's happening here.

You are way off base.

I remember when the entire goal for Alabama football for years was about making the Sugar Bowl. There was no SECCG, and if you made the Sugar Bowl, it usually meant you had a chance at winning the national championship.

In fact, back in the day Alabama held the record(and still does) for having the most bowl appearances of any team, which was a bit more special because for a long time there were only a handful of bowl games and only the top teams made it.

Then they started adding more and more bowl games over the years and then they became meaningless.

This is the realistic option.

Because that would clearly be pay for play, NIL is basically a wink nod version of pay for play.
