SEC has a built-in excuse for not winning the CFP

i think they adjusted the TV contract for 8 more SEC games. Which should be a chunk of money.

But is it, is the question.

Sure they will get more revenue. But only eight extra games worth?

This was such a bad idea that I have to assume that Sank asked for above FMV for the deal.

I get to see more good games and if my team is good enough to win it, then they will. That's how I am looking at it.

If they have 9 games, maybe they will finally become competitive with the B1G

None other than making the Big 10 happy since they have a 9 game schedule

I don't have a problem with the nine-game conference schedule. It should have been that way 10 years ago. What I do have a problem with, however, is Sankey mandating that we all play at least one OOC P4 team when the Committee has indicated that they only care about W/L and not SOS.
^^ TSRH

We screwed ourselves by scheduling tOSU in addition to the 9 conference games. Sure if we beat the suckeyes it will mean a huge jump in poll ranking, but at what cost if we lose a couple starters for the season with injuries? Meanwhile * insert SEC team * is playing Southwestern Delaware School of plumbing and custodial arts the same week thereby giving their starters a break and a chance for younger players to get some game experience.

Yes, it's self inflicted, but OOC games are scheduled many years in advance.

IMHO, if you increase conference size, you HAVE to increase # conf. games.

Now, to come up with a scheduling format where these extra tie-breakers AREN’T needed!

Also, if a UNIVERSAL scheduling format is used amongst everybody, what happens on the field DOES help determine which conference(s) is/are better.
*& yes, that does require cross-conference games.

Watching more B10 teams in the playoffs

Watching SEC Presidents kick Greg Sankey out.

Sankey got hosed. Bad.

We agreed to hang an extra loss on half our conference and for what?

For people to shut up on the time between Team A/Team B.

FYI, only the B1G is NOT mandating that 10th game (despite all the B’ing the SEC & ACC only plays/played 8 conference games).

Won't it also mean less bowl eligible SEC teams? 8 teams will have an additional loss they normally wouldn't have.

It makes my season tickets far more enjoyable.

Instead of 3 slop OOC games + a shitty neutral site OOC + 1-2 dogshit SEC teams, we now have a slate full of entertaining matchups.

Getting Texas, Alabama, LSU, and Auburn all at home in one year is fricking awesome lol.

You all are making excuses for the SEC not having enough at the top end of the conference to edge out the B1G representatives come playoff time. Man up pussies

Those 16 OOC games taken away were likely around 15-1 records for SEC teams.

But how do we know a lot of SEC teams wouldn't have gone back to scheduling home-and-homes and playing in kickoff classics?

The only reason they stopped in the last few years was because of future scheduling uncertainty.

1. If you go to 9 conf games, did SEC gain additional dollar commitment from ESPN?

Yes. It'll equate to about $5 million more per SEC school. Seems like it should be significantly more though. This is where the SEC/Sankey dropped the ball.

So just to put it in a better light...

Let's assume each team is having to give away a home game against a directional school for this. However, half of the teams get a home game because they are hosting a conference game instead. So that is a net .5 game loss per school in the conference (ie, 1 game every other year).

Schools with large stadiums make somewhere between $8M and $12M on ticket sales alone, not counting concessions or parking. So that means those teams lose between $4M and $6M on an annualized basis on tickets alone. ESPN is basically just making up for ticket sales for the big boys.

However, the big boys lose out on .5 game per year of parking, concessions and the towns lose .5 game a year of hotels.

It just does not make financial sense in any way.
