I don’t know all of the details but a friend claims they give academic scholarships to baseball kids with super high ACT and minority scholarships go African American and Latino players.

If I’m not mistaken d1 baseball only awards 11.7 scholarships for a 35 man roster and only a handful can be walkons

Vandy recruits with 11.7 scholarships every year. after a players first complete year they are eligible to get an academic scholarship if they qualify. The benefits of being a private institution with a large endowment.

I know they have the best academics in the SEC but seriously how many baseball kids stay 4 years and finish their degree? If they are good they go pro when they are drafted as Jrs

Vandy players are there for a participation trophy aka a degree not to get to the majors

Opportunity Vanderbilt is a program put in place to defray the cost of attending Vanderbilt and is available to all students. It is need-based and while it is a big help, it doesn't fully cover the costs of attending Vanderbilt.

If they aren’t getting degrees and the have sub par facilities compared to State Ark OM LSU etc why are top recruits nationally so interested in going there

Is their participation trophy a national championship trophy? I'd sure take one of those

Corbin was a big proponent of the BBCOR bats and whines about a lot of things
He complains about the advantages of Tops in LA and Hope in GA but Vandy has their own academic benefits to get players in to the school without the high tuition costs.
The difference is Tenn doesn't get the same benefits as Vandy and Tops and Hope is limited by the scholarship restrictions put in place by NCAA plus the 35 man roster.
For instance, Bregman was not on a full ride.

With Vandy players likely still paying for school on average what the average SEC baseball player pays per year.

The large majority get degrees would be my guess, this isn't football or basketball. Kids go to Vandy to get degree's, sure, if they get a shot at the majors they will take it but after a minimum of 3 years of college. If their goal was to go pro or get in the minors this is the only sport that they have the option to do so.

Using the old real estate adage...

Location aka Nashville big city leader in the SEC
Location aka Academic leader in the SEC
Location aka Creator of the SIAA, SoCon, and SEC

if LSU were in NOLA
Then, LSU is in biggest city in LA
Then, had the academic prestige of Tulane
Then, had the Dr Dudley of the South

Household AGI under $100k - You pay nothing.
Household AGI under $175k - You barely pay anything.

You only pay full price if your household AGI is over $250k.

Its the same model that the Ivy League, Duke and Stanford have used for years. They are calling it Opportunity Vanderbilt.

Add that to the fact that athletes have lesser academic qualifications than standard students at Vanderbilt, and its an attractive place - especially for athletes in minor sports. I mean, they aren't letting 15 ACTs in like some schools, but if you are good enough and want to play at Vanderbilt, a 23-24 type ACT is good enough.
