It’s unlikely but we could end up with like 5, 7-1 in conference record teams next year

Judging from past precedents ole miss , Kentucky, Vandy and aggy are not allowed to participate in it.

But there are other avenues into the playoffs now so if you’re getting in anyway it’s best not to have to play in it.

Hell, I did a review of the schedule last season, and there's a potential for 3 undefeated teams. I think one of the combos were LSU, Tennessee and Texas (all of which would start the season ranked, so it's not a huge stretch to see it happen).

Do you take "highest ranked"? If so, does that mean AP, or Playoff Committee? The committee's ranking would be the more relevant (since it's, you know, the playoffs), but do you REALLY want to hand a small group of outsiders the power to potentially pick the SEC Champ? And keep in mind, in such a circumstance, the team you omit will certainly be excluded from a first round bye.

No point in the conference championship game anymore with a 12 team playoff.

Would the teams have players sit out to heal up or avoid injury for the playoffs? It could be a watered down game. Just one more game some other teams in the playoffs don’t have to play.

If the objective is to make it more interesting then they have accomplished it.

If lsu beats Alabama, Alabama beats Georgia, Georgia beats Texas, ole miss loses to Georgia and beats lsu, mizzou loses to Alabama and wins out etc that’s 5 teams that could be 7-1. It won’t happen obviously because Oklahoma probably isn’t going 3-5 but it’s definitely something that should be public knowledge going into the season. It shouldn’t matter for most teams but my first ole miss game was a week 1 loss to Jacksonville state in 2010 and the only thing I want in the world is to watch them play in Atlanta for the sec championship game before I die.

Like the passion, but IF you are going to die, please don’t settle.

Change “watch them play in Atlanta for the SEC championship game” to “watch them WIN the SEc championship game.”

9 game conference schedule would help but most schools are too scared to play one.

SEC CG tiebreakers??

I told you all a couple months ago that it would be the Eye Test as administered by the REC. In other words, Alabama and who Alabama wants to play.

The rest of you all will be screaming for divisions again by next season...

Biggest state wins all ties.. Most all time wins is the second tiebreaker..

that would probably mean 5 SEC teams in the playoffs (all 7-1) if they also took care of OOC games..

Staged games coming soon..

The conference only has the SECCG now for ca$h. If they cared about helping the conference teams make the playoffs, they would realize the SECCG generally does more harm than good in that area.

The smartest thing they did was make it 12 teams rather than 8 or 16. The bye week and the home field advantage choice give the Championship games meaning.

I don't know about 5, but pretty sure 2-3 with the same record but no head to head & various # of common opponents.

I feel they'll use something they have in common - like H2H or common opponents.

Yes there is. The CG winner gets a 1st round "BYE" in the PO.

Kind of ironic for Alabama to talk about 9 games due to Saban's remarks & vote.
