I'd have to go Jeffrey Demps, the UF RB in 2008-09 when they had Percy Harvin. Harvin is pretty high up the list as well. Demps was just insane when he'd get in the open field, though. He was so much faster than anybody else on the field that it was ridiculous.

I've been on this board for a few years now, and I can honestly say that this is the dumbest thread I think I've ever saw. Either you're joking, you are an idiot, or you never saw them play.
I saw HW play in person. I saw him take a sweep and run down the sideline and a 180 lb, lightning fast DB had the angle on him and he STILL run by him.

Nobody ran down Bo Jackson at full speed. He got faster as he ran.
Some Bengals player named Rod Jones ran him down.
He must have been running a 4.1
I said that Bo & Herschel had track speed that just didn't seem to translate to the football field in the NFL.
Everyone responds by posting their track times & showing track meets

Not sure if this has been said yet because frankly I'm not reading 4 pages about nonsense.
But it's kind of like Derrick Henry today. The dude looks like he is an orca whale out there with a bunch of dolphins. Both go fast, but the orca surprises how fast it can MOVE and keep up with the dolphins.
Bo and Herschel MOVED. Once that train started it was almost impossible to stop it a la Henry.
ETA:
You're putting all of your eggs in the dumbass "WeLL AcKshUaLLy" technical basket, just like SidewalkTiger does. What you fail to include is the "consistency" bias/basket.

quote:No, I never got to see him play. But back then there was a guy named Freddie Miles out of South Florida. He was the highest rated RB in HS, ahead of Hershel. He had horrible grades so bounced around at Juco’s in California. He comes to UF for a stint and to this day, I’ve never seen a more dynamic runner. Think of Walter Payton and Percy Harvin x5. In practice, whenever he got on the field, EVERYBODY would stop what they were doing to watch. Coaches too. The kid was amazing. I could not do justice trying to write how incredible a runner he was. He carried his HS to 2 straight state titles. But he got in trouble everywhere he went. Ended up arrested for rape, tried out for USFL, got in trouble, went to jail and I think is destitute today in Miami. Very similar story to Dupree.
Did you get to play against Marcus Dupree ?

Same here.
I have never seen a guy destroy as many angles as Ted Ginn or run away from fast people like he did.
That 2nd kickoff return is insane.

quote:Most RBs have to wait for the play to develop. Maybe you’re seeing them hesitate before making their cuts. But once those guys cut up field, if you didn’t have a hand on them they were gone. Video also may not be at the correct speed. Ask anyone that played against either guy and NO ONEwould agree with you. Both guys were just physical freaks that were also gifted with blazing speed.

Then came Adrian Peterson

Add Eric Dickerson into the discussion out of the “Freak of Nature” running back discussion.

Bo and Herschel could run over, run through, or run past a defender - all depended on what was called for.
Both amazingly gifted physically.

Dupree's 9.5 is reported all over the place...
https://www.profootballhistory.com/marcus-dupree/
However it is hard to find an actual result. (Note that max preps put 100 meters instead of yards. LOL)

He was amazing and I wanted to watch him forever.

No, these were men who did amazing things given with the equipment and medical technologies available at the time.
I know both of these men and can tell you they are both uncanny in abilities.
Homo-globo needs to look elsewhere for targets.

You will have to click the video link to watch it but it's good. Shows all 3 of them.
yards per carry:
Hershel as a Junior: 5.2
Bo as a Senior: 6.4
King Marcus as a FRESHMAN: 8.5
Dupree had 235 yards in one half in the Fiesta Bowl..Record still stands..If he played all 4 quarters in would have been an easy 500+ yard day.
Arizona State team that had the number defense in the nation at the time.

It is amazing to me that in a 5-year period we got Herschel, Bo, Marcus Dupree, and Eric Dickerson. Crazy.
