I’m actually fine w Bama where they are… they’ll probably go on a destructive rage and climb back into the top 10 with ESPN’s help. What I DO have a problem with is how in the crap are TU, ND, and Clemson STILL in the top 10???? They got beat (TU and Clemson actually got dominated, despite the score). These rankings are CRAP and based 90% on politics. Honestly… and I despise the Seminoles… but after what they did to Bama, the Gus Bus should be ranked ahead of TU, ND, and Clemson. They looked frickin fast, disciplined, and scary. Bama didn’t have a CHANCE that game.

And you will lose all of those games.

OU is not good this year let's be honest.

Getting the preseason hype just like ND does and Nebraska did for years.

Kind of like TN every also.

Let's be honest the tom foolery with the bama and fsu rankings just proves these polls are completely rigged.

If any thing fsu should maybe be #22 and bama out of the top 25.

I don’t understand the South Carolina love. They might end up looking good this year but they struggled mightily against a dog shite VT team. If the VT QB could have hit wide open receivers they would have won the game.

Let's see how VT looks at home against Vandy this week before judging the quality of the South Carolina win.

Only at Alabama can you lose by two touchdowns in week one to a team that went 2-10 last season, and still be ranked in the top 25.

I'll help you to understand.

"They might .... but ...." .... "if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas." The aphorism was coined by the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Don Meredith, who later became a sports commentator for Monday Night Football in 1970. It applies to your statement.

quote:

.... they struggled mightily against a dog shite VT team.

Opening game, on the road .... no one knows if VT will be a "dog shite" team this season. They too have only played one game. They have some weapons. Their QB, RB and DLine are very capable. We shall see. You cannot see their future.

quote:

If the VT QB could have hit wide open receivers they would have won the game.

Again, see Dandy Don aphorism quote above, and also, SC had a TD overturned by a bad call. SC receivers dropped three balls .... running before the catch. They'll learn from that. One would have waltzed in for another score. Point being, if you're going to claim that VT would have won the game .... at least try to do so from an unbiased perspective and include all calls and plays that might have dictated a different outcome, one way or the other.

I've not watched the Tennessee game replay yet, but I may. If so, I'll come back and break down all the negatives for you, if you'd like? No mention of the positives, just the negatives. Deal?

I wouldn't call what the polsters voted "love." I would call it logic. Still too early to tell about most, so they voted based upon above and below performances while looking ahead to where teams might be a month from now.

That's how polls work, always have. Totally subjective. Nothing really matters until late October. Don't let it bother you for now. It usually washes out in the end.

ive seen this board blast VT, but they lost 5 of those games last year by 1 score. The VT offense did look really bad, but the SC defense is to credit for a lot of that. We constantly got pressure to their QB, and yes they dropped a few passes but their QB was under pressure and threw several tough balls to catch. Their running game was non existent and we didn't allow a TD.

VT will win 8 games this year imo, and beat Vandy next week

Surprised the Vols didn’t move into the top 20… then again, these rankings don’t mean shite at the beginning of the year.

I guess beating Southern Miss just doesn't mean anything these days. Sheesh.

So like most every SEC schedule since the dawn of time.

You need to get used to it and stop whining.

I disagree. If you start out high and drop a close game, you only drop a bit (see Texas) and are still in the running. If you hover in the lower 20's for the first half of the season and then drop one, you're out of contention. AP poll highly influences the initial CFP playoff poll. It shouldn't, but it does.

Rankings at the beginning of the year drive the whole conversation. I mean, look at Alabama, embarrassed by an unranked 2-10 team and still ranked above Tennessee.

Rankings are everything in today's college football world.

If LSU played Ohio St this week, they'd curb stomp them

I think it would turn out similar to the clemson game, minus the points that were left on the field for us.

I believe us vs Ohio state would be similar in score as us vs clemson, but not as big of a difference as what the stats looked like in our game vs clemson, if that makes sense.

we should have beat clemson by 17 points, maybe even more. clemsons field goal came from a fumble that showed the knee of our tight end clearly down. clemsons touchdown came from a 3rd down big play where the refs picked up the opi even though our corner was blocked in the back and the block was ,no doubt , in front of the line of scrimmage which is why they threw the flag in the first place. that penalty isn't a review able call.

then on offense we had a td overturned that was clearly a catch to anyone with eyes. even if he had to maintain possession through the ground, the ball still didnt move enough without possession to warrant an incomplete pass, which shouldn't have even mattered considering he broke the plain with possession.
we should have kicked the fg before half too which would have been 3 more points, kelly let his qb talk him into not taking the 3 when it was a chip shot and we would have had to spike the ball and would have only got one shot to the end zone if we converted. bk admitted that he fricked up.

so I really feel that with a cleanly reffed game and a smarter decision to just take the points , we could have won 24-0 or 21 -3 . something like that. they literally needed overturned calls and flags picked up to score a single point

I realize this sounds like ive got purple and gold glasses on,but rewatch the 1hour version of that game and tell me im not being objective.
they needed so much help to not be down at least 27-0 and at absolute worse 24-7

idk man. I really think it destroys your toughness as a team when your best player is painting his fingernails and appearing to be a finesse player.
that wasnt a fluke, they were ran on all game and pushed around on both lines of scrimmage. Bama is 5-5 in their last 10 games, they could very well be a team that hovers around towards the bottom of the sec.

nobody is remotely intimidated by Bama anymore. the only thing they had last year that could beat teams was milroe using his legs.

the teams that will be there in the end are the teams that are the most physical, especially on defense and the teams that pair physicality on the los and at linebacker with a qb that can beat you from the pocket

Yep, we are definitely overrated at this point.
The game in 2 weeks in Knoxville will tell the tale of whether this team is going to be competitive with the best teams in the SEC.
Gunner adds some dual-threat potential but he is slow so it's not the same as when we had Stetson Bennett at the helm.
And we are definitely going to miss Beck's passing game.

Because we lost to the new #1 and current champion in their house in a one possession game and one that we easily could have won. We should drop but given osu is considered a top 3 team that’s why. You lost to an unranked and 2-9 team last year on the road. Huge difference
