Nope.

Would ruin regular season.

Why, it makes the conference races better.

National Championship is a bad idea in general. Bring back the significance of the big bowl games. The Rose Bowl should never be seen as a consolation.

agree it would make the conference battle better and the championship game mean more. Any expansion will include the group of 5 so that is why I say highest rated group of 5 gets in. Would also create an underdog each year. Right now there are only about 5 games left that matter before the playoffs. If expanded it would make a lot more of them matter.

make winning your conference matter

I get the idea, but all conferences are not created equal. The sec this year will have probably 4 teams that would've won the pac 12.

You end up punishing a team like say UGA (assuming LSU/Bama got in as conf champ and at large) just because they play in a tougher conference

I’ve been saying for years you must win your conference to be eligible. If that caveat is added, everything else would fall into place. Butthurt will still flow from those not included but at least a line would be drawn in the sand.

ok the same thing happens in every other sport, you cant fix that, but UGA this year would have a strong argument if they won out but lost to LSU.

Don't want it and don't need it. With an 8 team playoff the LSU Alabama game would have been irrelevant this weekend.

Expansion would water down the regular season. 4 is the perfect number as it keeps the playoff consisting only off elite teams and keeps every game relevant. I don't know about you, but I want every game to be relevant and for something to be on the line for every game.

With this there would be no excuse to not make all P5 champs automatic entrants. Also, make that round home fielded to the higher seeded program. Or just more bowls getting greater relevance.

But that raises the question about the season being too long, i.e. 16-17 game seasons.

You know why nobody complains about the NFL playoffs? Win your division and you are in. Doesn’t matter if you finish 7-9 like Carolina did that year

But this is EXACTLY what I don't like about the NFL's playoffs. It makes no sense to put a team in the playoffs with a losing record, but leave out team(s) with a winning record.

Completely agree. The college football regular season has so much urgency because a single loss could cost you the national championship. You have meaningful games all season.

Make it six teams. Reward the 1 and 2 teams with a bye, and have the other 4 play a feed in game.

I think we should have 8.
But here’s the way.
After the CCGs
CFP issues top 25, like they do already.

P5 conf champs claim a playoff spot; if they are ranked in the top 12

Top ranked G5 conf champ claims a playoff spot if they are in the top 12

Top ranked non champ teams claim the 2 large spots based on rankings

If a P5 champ doesn’t qualify under top 12 rule, that spot goes to the next highest ranked top 12 team

If a G5 champ doesn’t qualify under top 12 rule that spot goes to the next highest ranked top 12 team.

Only P5 champs or ND can host the next weekend quarter finals.

2018-
1Bama vs 9 Washington
2 Clemson vs 8 UCF
3 Notre Dame vs 6 OSU
4 OU vs 5 UGA

*** Washington and UCF claimed spots under top 12 rule... Michigan eliminated as 3rd highest rank non champ team.

If a playoff is what is necessary then have the teams actually qualify for the playoffs like the professional leagues do.

If NFL used the college system, the wildcard spots Would be voted on.

The criteria should be set before the season starts.

There’s already an 8 team playoff. Penn state just played Minnesota. LSU just played bama. Oregon and Utah will play. LSU and Georgia will play. Ohio state will play somebody in the champ game. Win and you’re in. Lose and you’re out.

Very much this. College football cannot in any way minimize the regular season. Expanding to 8 teams will do this.

No matter how many teams are included in the playoff, the argument will still exist and be exactly the same. You jut move the argument from who is #5, to who is #9.

It’s not over thought.., you just can’t comprehend anything.

It allows for automatic qualifiers; but keeps the outlier champs who may end up winning their conf with 4-5 losses from taking a playoff spot.

No my fault your stupid!
