Alabama people, especially a lot of older ones in Metro Tuscaloosa and little girls (and their parents) pay as much attention to Alabama softball and gymanstics as anything but football.
We average over 3,000 people a game every season. In softball. The next highest attendance nationally is 2,400. The next highest in the SEC is around 2,000.
Alabama softball is a thing that a whole lot of people pay attention to, and it's a huge part of a giant demographic of Alabama fans lives (mainly older folks and little girls), and has been for a decade plus for softball and 30+ years for gymanstics.
It's weird that you are trying to argue against that. It's not even an argument for anyone who has ever lived in Tuscaloosa. People in town care more about gym and softball than anything but football and men's basketball. Baseball is a clear #5.

I would say people in and around Tuscaloosa are as knowledgeable as any because of the effort Pat Murphy has put into making softball relevant. There’s a reason Bama leads the nation in attendance year in and year out.

Congrats but I’ll just say this, almost every Bama fan says no sports matter except football. Most have even been mocking baseball and when MSU won the Sec in womens hoops and played 2 nattys in last 3 years we were told nobody cares about that stuff. I’m sure same was said when we just won Sec in Tennis.

Alabama has more diehards than anyone, and probably has the largest casual softball fanbase in the country, the types who keep up with results on Twitter or message boards and watch a game if it's on SECN/ESPNU. By far.

Softball has been a big thing for 20 years. Gymnastics has been a big thing for 30 years. Alabama was good at and packed stadiums and gyms out for those before lost SEC teams even attempted to compete in them.

Argue against what? The average Bama doesn't care about softball beyond the ability to brag about winning something of note when they find out about it. This is true of pretty much every college.
Congrats on the 3k attendance. I'll give you double that as the number of Bama fans that can name one single player. Probably the same number that can name a baseball player.
And despite your assurances that Bama is loaded with softball super fans, how does that refute the lame nature of Bama fans on this board laughing at folks that care about baseball or basketball?

That Murphy guy is unreal, it's pretty much every f'ing year he's got 'em going. Dammit....7-0 last night was ridiculous, thought we'd come back today....was hoping it would at least come down to tomorrow. Yeah, this is when it's really pretty fun to watch. I agree what you said about gymnastics and softball. I think it's a lot like that at many places. Hell the games here this weekend were SOLD out, even though tv showed a few empty gold seats, really good crowds.

Everyone, including me, says, meh, and yall don't buy it, presumably because you would prefer it if anyone besides yall cared. Statistically 0% of people who call themselves Bama fans don't care about softball. I have a relatively small, yet statistically relevant sample on which to draw that conclusion.

There is no point in arguing who cares and who doesn't. Nobody really cares much about LSU basketball 90% of the time, but people loved posting about it here this year. A lot of care about it, so that's all I really know about those who don't.
Bottom line is we won the SEC Title and posted about it just like people do when they win Track or Golf or Beach Volleyball. Then we retreat to the softball thread on our board to talk about how we hope Murph doesn't fvck it up again and argue with LATIDER.
That's all, basically.

What is spot on is that the football hangers on (many in other states) do only care about football. That's their only connection to Alabama period. And those are the main types a lot of you folks from outside Alabama run into on a normal basis. So, from your perspective, it's probably true. My friends in Atlanta that also went to school at Alabama almost all care about basketball in varying degrees and a lot of them at least passively pay attention to baseball, softball and both golf programs. The sidewalks I come across or deal with in work stuff? They don't give 2 shits about that stuff.
But it's also not actually true, as buying out Avery Johnson for $4M, having 3K a game at softball and 10K a meet at gymnastics would attest to.

The difference is most LSU fans don’t shite on other sports when opposing teams are having success with them
