We havent had a 1000 yard rusher in years. It would be a huge benefit for us.

He averaged 5 yards a carry and had 16 touchdowns. He would have been a top SEC with those numbers.

We have a guy capable we jusy have to get into a better offensive flow.

2023 Washington only ran for about 14 more yards per game, than 2025 Alabama per Sports-Reference.com

You guys basically did what they did, you just spread it out amongst more backs.

They averaged a yard more per carry than we did. Thats significant. The truth is if DeBoer can replicate that he will win a lot here.

he has won there, somewhat, but not at all near what you're accustomed to/expect/entitled to.

Seems to be a theme in the SEC. LSU - 11 losses last two seasons. Georgia - 5 losses last two seasons (and zero playoff wins). Texas - 6 losses. Oklahoma - 10 losses. Tennessee -8 losses. Florida - 13 losses. Auburn - 14 losses.

A lot of fans are going to need to adjust expectations.

He knows how to develop QBs, even when he gets their heads pounded to the ground with his unphysical offensive lines

Maybe, but it appears as though you'll need a Heisman level quarterback

yeah because they get the bye from winning the conference, that isn't the gratuitous own comment you were hoping for

Getting beat by 35 with a first round QB definitely bodes well for the future, agreed OP

Lincoln Riley put Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Jalen Hurts, and to a degree Spencer Rattler, Dilliin Gabriel, and Caleb Williams in the NFL and he's never made the playoffs as a head coach.

That was just a different time. We were that much better everywhere else on the field.

Wont happen with DeBoer. We will have to have the right guys at the right time.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, lately they absolutely have. Lately when they've won big it's been with bryce young, tua, mac jones and hurts. All Heisman caliber dudes.

Your point stands going back further than that with guys like McElroy, but that was a totally different era. You could have a serviceable qb but still win it all with mega elite defense and more talent than every other team you play. Can't really say the same these days.

Historically, Alabama had Saban. They don't anymore; the blueprint for winning is different with a new coach.

For the most part, you aren't winning without elite QB play these days.

And the QB went in the draft at number 13. What am I missing here?

Bama could throw deep. They just couldn't catch deep. Ryan Williams was too busy planning his celebration to worry about securing the ball.

Makes sense. Thank you.

Does that make him the youngest player to ever plan his celebrations before catching the ball?

I believe it does. He used to only be 17, you know?
