I wouldn't if I was a punter.

I've been wondering that very thing for the last 13 years.

Bama

The rest of college football

Because Bama doesn't recruit, they hold auditions.

Bama can only take about 25 a year. The rest go wherever as a consolation prize, like Baton Rouge or Athens.

Uh, this ain’t the days of the Bahr when he could sign as many as he wanted.

There are limits, you can’t take them all, & they don’t all want you.

Consolation prize? LOL.

Glad you cleared that up. Hell, I thought 46-41 was due to talent, not that $aban got out coached.

I’ll sleep better now.

Good question but what about the bench? What do you think about players that didn’t see the field much but were good enough to play on other SEC rosters? Are there many of those type dudes on the Bama rosters through the years? Does Bama get them to the league with frequency even still? Better than if they had SEC in game reps / moments / film?

There are guys like Cam Sims who didn't play much at Bama and has caught on in the league. Also JC Hassaneur never played much but has spent time in the league.

Eta: I didn't down vote your post bc I think you've got a good point. Some of these guys would have had more prolific careers at other schools, and potentially had better chances at the nfl. Corey Grant is a good example.

Never underestimate the power of being able to tell a kid "hey, you don't have to live in Alabama for a few years to play for us."

Good post.
Firstly, if a kid can't get on the field at Alabama, after a couple of years, he can go into the transfer portal, and take his excellent training on to another school where he'll probably do well, or
Secondly, stay with the program and hope to get some significant playing time his senior year. Pro GMs and scouts will look hard at a kid coming out of Alabama over other schools (I've been told this by NFL scouts). Either way, it's usually the best path.

Even if it's a 4 or 5 star player, if they don't go to Bama it's because Bama didn't want em.

It was mostly just dumb luck. And a ton of injuries.
