I haven’t seen that game since it was played but I remember Geno being on his back for most of it.

They hit Miami in the mouth on both sides of the ball and they were in shock. By the time they sort of recovered it was way too late.
Torretta was just not that good and when faced with a real defense he was exposed. The Alabama offense just decided to be more man than the Miami D.

Gino freaked out when Bill Oliver put all 11 guys on Bama’s defense on the line of scrimmage at once.

I was in school at Bama for that year. My future wife and I made the trip to The Big easy on the 30th to get a day in before the huge NYE party ended up at and left Tips at daybreak (Radiators ) and of course . the sugar bowl on the 1st... thank goodness the game was that afternoon/evening... when Teague made that play it was time to bust out the scoobie snacks again.. man the dome was rocking.. ah good times

It was a phenomenal play, no doubt. But if you watch closely, you can see Teague lined up offsides.

I usually root for SEC teams when they play Power 5 games. But when an SEC team is struggling with a patsy, I usually root for the patsy, just because it’s funny when the patsy wins.
My God, I hate anybody (except for Gator fans) who wasn’t pulling for Georgia Southern against UF.

The play was called back anyway because Eric Curry was offsides, but the play was still huge because it prevented a score/big gain. Miami couldn’t just decline the penalty and take the gain because they lost the ball.

Truth is the refereeing in that game was heavily tilted toward Miami... Rogers Redding was a dick. Besides that, it was all the REC...

My freshman year and my first time in "the Big Easy" good times.

That game was even more satisfying than the 1985-86 Sugar Bowl game when Tennessee humiliated them. And I enjoyed the hell out of that one.

Damn. I was just trolling.

Teague was incredible... but the entire defense was extraordinary to watch. Probably the greatest defense in CFB history, certainly Alabama. All 11 starters played multiple NFL seasons. My favorite D player was Sam Spade*... mostly because he had the coolest name ever. (Note: Sam Shade...typo or auto correct*.)
I remember that 8 of the 11 players were ALL-SEC, and that 4 were ALL-Americans (Curry, Copeland, Langham, and Teague) - all 4 of those went first round. It was crazy. That defense was special. That defense won us games we should have lost.
That and David Palmer returning kicks. Just wow.

Hate me some bama, but that play might be the greatest single play in a championship game all time.
Especially after the WR who got stripped of the ball was the one who talked smack the most prior to the game.
The dude even bragged about outrunning the other guy on the play (the one that fell down). Guy just could NOT admit to getting burned.

Still remember Teague stripping that ball from Lamar Thomas.

I seem to recall him calling a timeout and walking to the sidelines and saying "I dont know what they're doing."

Somewhat interesting side note: Former Alabama assistant coach and current Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal was the Canes’ starting right tackle.

The Rock was a back-up DL in that game for Da U.

On of the biggest LOLs I have ever had. I completely enjoyed that beat-down.

Glad they made it because they completely left that shite out of The U documentary
