That's pretty wild. And in the last year of the conference.
The only western teams to play in the Sugar Bowl are:
- Santa Clara (1937, 1938)
- Saint Mary's (1946)
- Wyoming (1968)
- Air Force (1971)
- Hawaii (2008)
- Utah (2009) (was in the MWC at the time)

Damn.
For some reason I thought when UW played Bama a couple years ago, that was the Sugar Bowl...
It's hard to keep up with all of Bama's successes

Peach - they were a really fun fanbase to mingle with, too.

The Rose affiliation for eons prevented this.
Hawaii played in it though.

It’s literally just a game.

Should be a great game. Johnson and McMillan looked really good for the Huskies. I'm taking the over in this one.

Don’t ever contribute anything other than irrelevant drive by trash posts?

I feel like Air Force should count too. Not sure what is considered “West” though.

I'm not sure why anybody is laughing at this post.
PAC didn't allow any team to play in a bowl outside the Rose Bowl until the 1975 season.

Same, it's definitely a big reason why.

The "affiliation" didn't prohibit northern teams from accepting bids to southern bowl games, segregation did. Integrated teams generally didn't want to bench their black players to play in the South, which the southern teams demanded.

Who said it did? The Pac 10 wasn't a "northern" conference.
Their champion for many many years went to the Rose like the SEC champion went to the Sugar.
The Rose in non-playoff rotation years still had dibs on the highest Pac 10 team available after the Playoff was started.

It kind of was...

Not exactly, a team couldn't appear two years in a row even if they repeated as champions.
Did you know that the PAC 8 Conference didn't form until 1968?

None of this explains why a PAC team never played in the Sugar.
