So the one time they opened against a good teams with Gus running the offense (he wasn't there in 2012), they lost. It's not a myth or a troll to say Auburn is usually much better in mid-October than they are in the first few weeks of the season. It usually takes them a few games to find a rhythm offensively.
I don't think Washington is good enough to expose that, though.
So you dont think Arkansas, Louisville or Washington State was a good opening challenge? Come on man. At least try a little. Im no teenager who is just going to spread my legs. Buy me a drink or something.
And the Clemson loss was by a very small margin and if I am not mistaken, they did eventually go to the National Championship.
And my post was also based on "Auburn always starts slow". Not just Gus.

Auburn has better players than Washington in most every position. Couple that with the fact that Washington is traveling across the country and it’s going to be tough sledding for the Huskies.
Peterson may be the one of the top 5 coaches in the country, but Auburn will be too much.
41-14 AU

Aub by 10-14. AU is going to whip Warshington up front. Ball game.

Auburn 38 Washington 24
eta - I should clarify that I think it will be Auburn 38-17 before Washington gets a late TD.

I’m pissed this game isn’t at night. It’s the best matchup of the day on paper. Think auburn wins by 10 to 13. Washington always underwhelms me when they play against good defensive fronts. Either way can’t wait.

12:30 Washington’s time zone so I think they’ll be sluggish. Field goal Gus gets it done being up 23-21 and AU scores one last time to make it a nine point win 30-21.

I trust Gus zero percent to have us ready to play well on offense until 1/3rd of the way through the season, so we’ll probably be terrible offensively this game. Expect several mind blowingly awful calls because Gus will go full derp.
That said, I’m terrified of Chris Peterson getting his guys ready all offseason for this game.
Wash 28
Auburn 20

Even after last season? good faith...... You sure you root for Auburn?

You are a pussy AU fan. Gus hasn’t had a decent returning QB with the exception of Marshall. That year the emphasis of the early season was to develop a passing game. That is not a problem with Stidham. Study some history and understand what happened before running in your hole.

First loss of an Auburn 4 or 5 loss season.

I honestly think this is going to be the best game of the opening weekend. Gun to head I take the boogs by 7

It'll be like the Iron Bowl last year, Auburn by 2 scores. Washington never in a position to win.

I agree. Washington is really good. Petersen is as good as they come, IMO.
They do have a very good QB.I do think Auburn is a more physical team. If we can get the run game going, I believe we will wear them down in the second half.
Teams make a lot of mistakes early in the season. I just hope mistakes don't cost us.
I feel this game is a toss-up.

I think this game depends on the trenches. I know, duh. But Washington has a really solid O-Line anchored by 2 all conference players. Both are huge at 6'8". Can they match up against Auburn's exceptional DL? If so, Auburn will have fits as Browning and Gaskins could gash them, if Auburn has to bring blitzes from the LBs.
On the other side, Washington has a pretty solid DL, but probably not top tier SEC-caliber. Greg Gaines is more of a run stopper than a pressure guy. If Washington wants to win, they have to pressure Stidham. Stidham proved last year that if you can pressure him, he will make a lot of mistakes. UW has 2 excellent guys in the secondary who can make him pay for those mistakes. Auburn's new OL has to get right out of the gate, or UW could jump out to a quick lead.
In the end, all of this is baked in to the line, which is close to a pick-em, especially considering Auburn's "home field" advantage.
It seems like it may come down to coaching, and in that scenario, give me Peterson all day long.
UW - 24
Auburn -20
Hope I'm wrong, bc I'm tired of all the SEC jabs from the media. They will go nuts if Auburn loses this game.

I doubt it, considering they mostly expect us to lose.

Based on pre-season rankings. Which mean absolutely nothing.
Auburn may have shite the bed a few times last year, but they bring back a lot of the same team that whipped UGA and Alabama.

One will not be to MSU. They were the softest team AU has played the last two years. The games have been over by halftime in both games.
