My biggest fear was he would stay 5 years way too long into his late 70s or early 80s like Bowden or Paterno and run the program into the ground with nothing anyone could do about it.
The fact that 1) he was self aware enough to retire after seeing a slight decline in his energy, game prep, and program discipline, and 2) that a slight decline meant 2 playoff berths and inches from another in his final 3 years, is a testament to how good he was and the high standard he had for himself.

Wut? Not at all. Saban left as SEC Champion and beat every SEC team the last time he faced them. I mean yes it would have been cool for him to retire as natty champs but that is such an incredibly hard bar to pass and I cannot think of the last coach to retire walking away as successful as he was in his final season

Is that a thing? I’ve never encountered one of those. They’re like unicorns.

I don't know what more you could expect.
If having the greatest career ever and then barely losing the national championship in your last year is brutal, then sign me up.
He still went out a winner. Most coaches and athletes in general go out as losers after a few horrible years/matches... whatever.

I know reading isn’t a strong point around here but if you read even those posts you’d notice that the anger was directed at Bill OBrien and Pete Golding who were arguably the two worst coordinators of the Saban era relative to the talent they had to work with.
The posters were emotionally pointing out that those two clowns very likely cost Bama two NCs at a minimum.

2021 - lost to Kirby in the Natty 2022 - missed playoffs, lost @ LSU and @ Tennessee 2023 - lost to Michigan in the Rose Bowl From the many highs of the 2010s it sure did end on a sour note the past few years.
That 3 year run is better than 90% of all other program’s entire history.

Bama only had the lead for about 3 minutes the entire game. They had no answer for Ewers and the Longhorn offense.
Youre right, Bama is certainly no Kansas

I mean I was a fan during the dark ages, these past few years have been great overall in comparison.

Not at all. It was obvious to us that he wasn’t the same coach and the national titles were probably done. He admitted he didn’t have the energy anymore but it will never take away from what he did. He still had one gem in him and beat unbeatable Georgia but it was over and we knew it. Not sour at all. Too many great memories to even list them. Looking forward to the future and many great seasons.
Had he been in his prime like Harbaugh then maybe but it was time for Nick.

No. If anything last year was exciting as hell considering how we won the Iron Bowl, ended Georgias 3 peat bid and won the sec, made the playoffs. Especially after how we looked in September

those posters in the pic are so damn spoiled. They’ll be calling for DeBoer’s head w/quickness if he’s not instantly a top 2 team in the country.
It's going to be absolute bedlam on that board the first time he drops a game.

2021 - lost to Kirby in the Natty
2022 - missed playoffs, lost @ LSU and @ Tennessee
2023 - lost to Michigan in the Rose Bowl
2 x Confernece championships, National runner up, and an OT CFP loss to the eventual champ.
I'm not sure how a fan of a school that has only one back to back 10+ win seasons in their school's history qualifies the above as brutal.
How would you describe AU over the last few years? Or, throughout its history for that matter.
The three years you listed were some of the most exciting in a while from my perspective.

Irrationally calling out coaching is par for the course with almost every team in an in game thread.
