Yes.

They were right in the long term of setting the precedent that players can't renogotiate at every juncture. Had they given in, it may have sno balled on them.

If you are looking just at the 2025 season, its tough to say it was the right call. They would definbitely have been a better team with Nico at QB.

If you ask me (and you did), I think they mad ethe right call not only for them, but for all of college football.

That depends on the next guy up. He had elite potential bur he never played at an elite level. (Yet.) At long as the next guy doesn't shite the bed it's a push at worst.

I love how everyone thinks this action by Tennessee has stopped it from happening again.

What Tennessee did was not allow a kid to re-negotiate a contract that he already was not fulfilling. Nico wasn't doing the public appearance/meet & greets required by the contract, and he tried to hold UT hostage by not going to practice the day before the Spring Game. I love how people think that this action by a player was ok, and would be fine with it happening with their program.

I doubt UCLA will be any good, so Tennessee's QB might win more games than Nico. He was better off with the Vols.

What do you do for a living??? Is your job or the job you do worth that amount of money??

These kids act like they are already in the NFL and IMO Nico got cut.... and that's a.good thing.

Where the Vols mussed up was in QB recruiting outside of Nico. You have Nico and 2 Freshmen? what if Nico had gotten hurt if you had played him? Even in the NIL era the elite teams don't have a roster gap like that.

Tennessee did the right thing. Nico was a 5-star QB who was supposed to be college-ready when he got to campus, and he wasn't. His on-field play showed that last season. Then, Nico gets too big for his britches and starts asking for $4M per year. Why pay a guy like he's a top ten QB in the nation if he's barely top ten in his own conference?

Even worse, Nico demands all of this money despite his poor play, and CHOOSES to not show up to practice. If I'm a manager at my job and had an employee who shows up entitled, asks for way too much in salary, and doesn't show up to work, you bet your arse he's getting the fricking boot. Good job, Tennessee

Coach Bobby Hill failed to develop him or get elite talent around him. Hype-LLL has peaked

No, I earn a good living. I can get my summer off and enjoy what I do, but I will never be a millionaire.

Nico told the UCLA media that he left Knoxville because he was afraid of being injured. After all, they did not keep their promise of adding protection. That was his version, but I do not believe it.

Tennessee not paying up makes me believe the coaches thought they could replace him. Too much on the line if they can't.

Nico didn’t win us a single game last season. His talent is undeniable but his performance was less impressive than Joe Milton’s last season.

I don’t think it boiled down to pay for UT as much as it boiled down to constant drama around pay and learning he was telling teammates one thing and coaches another. It also came out that he was bad for not showing up for NIL obligations or showing up only to call his dad and have his dad intervened.

Just more headache than production. If he’d produced more we would have paid.

That roster gap exists in part because of Nico. He was a RS frosh last season. The two behind him are a current RS frosh and true frosh with another heavy hitter coming in with Faizon Branden who has been committed for a while. Not many in the current climate wanted to step into a room with Nico having so much eligibility and the top QB recruit of 2026 incoming.

We are missing an upperclassman but Nico would have been a RS sophomore/junior. We had 2 guys on roster who would have been great to have now but they were sandwiched between Hooker/Milton and Nico. They left in part because it was assumed Nico would live up to billing and be the starter for longer than a season.

The coaches saw the real Nico.

Lazy, entitled, and not near as talented as advertised.Tennessee had to play a very limited playbook with Nico. He is not a quick learner.

he is no worse than Carson Beck who made 4.3 million.

Beck was #8 in QBR and Nico was #36

Regardless, he was terrible. His rating was due to the talent surrounding him IMO.

When a player like Beck was given 4.3 million, then it was only natural that everyone else tried to get more.

Swap Nico and Beck last season and UT has an unstoppable offense while UGA loses a few games they shouldn’t. That is the difference between the two.

He wasn't that great. He was an average QB.
