People say things in the heat of the moment. It's a baseball dugout. I've heard far worse, but these days there's always a camera and someone virtue signaling.

You aren't being a contrarian, you are literally reciting worn out cliche's. You absolutely should never apologize if a)you don't believe you did anything wrong and b)you aren't sorry. The fact that you casually want to compel people to say things that they don't believe is also bigotry. This is what happens when you give the networks free reign over you athletic programs. You lose control. I try not to hate things, but the media would be at the top of my list if I ever decide to.

People need to quit apologizing for things they clearly intended to say. If you’re going to backpedal, then it shouldn’t have been said to begin with.
If you say it, own it. (although I’m guessing in this instance, the Wake Forest powers that be demanded it).

This is 100% correct and what the pearl-clutchers don't ever seem to understand, because they've never been in a locker room in their life.
It clearly wasn't intended to be a slur in that way, and someone getting in serious trouble over something like this (and possibly losing their job) is quite absurd.

There is no one alive who isn't bigoted to a small extent. We can all act like we have no biases, but that just isn't true. The schools should band together and say the cameras are not allowed to video the dugouts. Ever. Same with the sidelines. Let the coaches do their job and not have to play-act for the cameras. This will also stop much of the antics that go on from the bench warmers, and all the post home run/touchdown/slam dunk stupid arse contrived celebrations. Just keep it between the lines.

Even though Wake was originally founded as a Baptist school, the crazy expensive tuition has made their student body essentially rich northern transplants at this point. Who bring their political ideals with them. It's a very liberal campus, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a push to fire him.
