Same result, less risk in a meaningless tournament to teams who have sewn this up. This isn’t anything to brag about.

I may be in the minority, but I think winning a SEC Tournament is something to be very proud about. It demonstrates the depth and grit of your team. No one is pitching their aces more than once, so you have to have a very deep pitching staff to win it.

The tournament provides a great stage for a lot of members on your team to learn how to produce on a big stage under bright lights. LSU had 3.freshman in our lineup throughout the tournament. The experience they got from our run is priceless.

While LSU is exactly in the same spot after losing today’s game as they would be if they won it (2 seed on the road), I would have loved to have won today.

While Vitello doesn’t have a National Chsmpionship yet, he is creating a phenomenonal winning culture at Tennessee. Winning these tournaments creates a championship winning culture. Skip certainly understood that and LSU has always taken every tournament they enter as a step forward to a championship culture.

Vitello is an elite coach at the moment. He can come off as douchey at times but I like the baw.

The rubes on Hogville are convinced that Vitello is their next head coach.
If UT is willing to invest in the baseball program, then I’m sure he would stay at UT.

However, as long as you guys are playing baseball on kids playground turf and are behind the times on facilities - don’t be surprised if he bolts to a program with top-tier facilities.

Tony wants the turf. He’s changing it out with different turf this offseason…..

He’s also recruiting with the best of them with his current facilities.

But Arkansas is the “standard”. I thought they were a baseball school?

Your coach isn’t in the same conversation as DVH at this point in his career.

DVH been a HC for 25 years, Vitello been a coach for 6 years. Of course you can compare 25 years against just 6. But let’s take a look at DVH first 6 years to Tony V first 6 years.

DVH first 6 years as D1 HC
Wins- 223
Losses- 120
Win %- .650%
50 win seasons- 1
NCAA Tournament app- 2
Conf champs- 2 Southland
Omaha app- 0

Vitello first 6 years as D1 HC
Wins- 270
Losses- 108
Win %- 714
50 win season- 3
NCAA Tournament app- 4
Conf Champs- 2 SEC regular season, 2 SEC Tourny Champs
Omaha app- 2

I say through their first 6 years as D1 coaches Vitello is most definitely ahead of him in every metric.

Even if you compare DVH 1st 6 years at Ark to Vitello 1st 6 years at Tennessee, Vitello still beats him.

UT has approved for $98 million in renovations and expansion for just baseball. They also have the money to make Vitello the highest paid coach in the league. Money isn’t an option or upgrading the facilities in Knocksville.

If he was going to leave for another program, he would have left when the LSU job was open and they tried to lure home away. Vols made him the highest paid coach. Vitello has been giving full power of baseball program. Vitello is the reason the Vols have turf! It was an all natural field when he showed up, and they switched to turf as soon as he asked. He likes turf and even said it’s staying with all the renovations going on.

Lol smallpenisrick16 if Arkansas decides they want Vitello then we will take him but we are good with Dave for now. Y'all have to take our sloppy seconds in baseball and that ain't gonna change any time soon lmfao!

I actually agree. Van Horn is a great coach. Any of us would love to have the year to year success he has had. So a foul ball away from the ultimate prize. But no one would believe that Bianco is a better coach. Even though Mike wink the prize a few years ago. We have sucked for years. And LSU’s coach isn’t in the same ballpark because last year was a bought team.

And if we don’t win the natty literally this year, the collective narrative will be it was another “failure/“choke” of a season for Vitello and Tennessee baseball. Just is what it is

Tony went 0-2 in Omaha after winning 50 games in 2021.

He followed that up with a 25-5 SEC season, and many Vols on here were proclaiming that they were the best team of all time…. And they didn’t even make it to Omaha.

It’s not unfair to criticize him for not cashing in on great teams. Plus, acting like a complete trashball doesn’t help win him any leniency with his critics.
