BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech fans have long hoped for the addition of home-and-home series with Southeastern Conference opponents to the Hokies' football schedules. On Thursday, Director of Athletics Whit Babcock announced that Alabama and Ole Miss will each play a home-and-home series with the Hokies. In addition, Babcock also confirmed that the dates for the Wisconsin series have been solidified for 2031 and 2032. Plans are also being finalized to play a home-and-home series with an SEC opponent in 2024 and 2025.

2025 "SEC" is a placeholder for Oklahoma State when the SEC goes to 18 teams.

Virginia Tech was one of the earliest members of the Southern Atlantic Conference (1912) and the Southern Conference (1922) which later (1932) spun off the SEC.

I'd imagine that a lot of Hokies would love to "re-join" the SEC!

Yes, obviously everyone knows how good or bad these teams will be in 10 or 15 years. Kind of like you pricks acting like Texas was a good win this year. They're trash.

I always thought they'd be a great addition if we ever went looking.

Similar priorities sports wise, good school, opens up Virginia and the DC market, natural rivalries with Kentucky and Tennessee. However, the Virginia legislature made a big deal out of getting them into the ACC with UVA and there is no way they're gonna let them leave for the SEC (even if they wanted to).

So who is the SEC program playing VT in 2024 and 2025? Since its back-to-back years, it seems likely to be a home-and-home.

Any ideas?

They don't want an SEC schedule. They know they would not be able to compete. They don't want to be doormats to the big 6.

Based on looking at the schedules for 2024/2025, I'm guessing it's South Carolina.

- Arkansas has Oklahoma St/Notre Dame
- Auburn has Cal/@ Baylor (could be them)
- LSU has UCLA/@ Clemson
- State has @ Arizona St/Arizona St
- Tennessee has Oklahoma/@ Nebraska
- Texas A&M has Notre Dame/@ Notre Dame
- Florida has Miami/FSU both years
- Georgia is full in 2024, UCLA/Tech in 2025
- It's not Ole Miss
- It's not Alabama
- I can't imagine they'd be touting Vandy
- Kentucky is full
- Missouri is full

I wouldn't be surprised if it were a team that is already full and they couldn't announce it yet for that very reason. They'll have to buy out or renegotiate with one of those teams first.
