Mike Martin is the yardstick with which this must be measured.

I don’t know how Martin didn’t win a title just by accident based on how many times he was in the CWS.

Polk got to Omaha 8 times. DVH has been 9 times. Martin went 17 times.

Who was the Oklahoma State coach who had Pete Incaviglia and all those studs in the late 70s and early 80s ? I don’t think OSU has ever won a CWS.

DVH at least reached the title game. Polks best finish was 4th. Even our interim finished 3rd

Dave’s record aside, what he’s built as far as facilities, fan support and national attention has really upped recruiting recently and this will eventually lead to higher success.

We’re fortunate he came here and I hope he continues here for awhile longer.

Yeah that’s crazy. You would think he could have lucked into a title or two going that many times.

Last name was Ward but he never had pitching. Robin Ventura was on one of his teams. He definately deserves a spot.

As much as I love DVH, I think it may be the next guy that brings it home for us.

I thought Polk finished 3rd in 85. Behind Texas and Miami. I'll have to go check and make sure.

DVH will be here as long as he wants to be.

If Arkansas runs him off then baseball will go down the toilet just like Arkansas football in the early 90s.

State was third in 1985 behind MIA & TX.
A line drive off Gene Morgan’s ankle cost us the NC that year. Just a fluke of an injury.
Win that game and we have Brantley pitching in the NC game and he was not going to lose that game.

Winning a NC requires some good fortune along with a great team that is hot at the right time.
