I felt bad for Iowa St fans until I read one of them turning their nose up at playing a school like Tulsa. They do the same thing to G5 schools that we do to them.

To be fair - that writer is a total douchebag that most of the fanbase despises

The arrogance is unbelievable. Being a bully in the field would be one thing. I think it’s the other things surrounding Texas that most have an issue with.

And yet, he epitomizes most of your fan base and all of your administration based on UT's past actions for the last several decades.

From the article, a tsips own words:

"As the Longhorns appeared in six consecutive Cotton Bowls, for instance, the school kept a total of $600,000 for itself and handed over $1,500,000 to the SWC for distribution to the other schools. Texas continued subsidizing the conference until it dissolved two decades later."

Boy, that sounds like someone I want to be in a partnership with.
Now contrast that with the SEC and the equal distribution of winnings and see which league prospered and grew stronger. tu is a cancer period.

If Texas joins the SEC, they must be humbled.

Longhorn fans claim to have "subsidized" the Big XII too. Must be one of their new favorite talking points, along with "not our real rival" and "we never cared about that game anyway."

Longhorns need to go independent so they don't have to worry about subsidizing anyone else or looking like they care about any games.

I wonder what that writer said about Nebraska, Colorado, A&M, and Missouri leaving? Think he has changed his tune? Surely he would not be a hypocrite.

Feeling that way, why be in a league at all? The idea is that there is a level playing field between conference mates, not socialism.

UTex should go independent. And just play Orange and White games. I mean, why help out anybody, UTex and just do it all on their own.

Well, yes. Yes it is.

The special circumstance in this instance is that ultimately your success is dependent upon the existence (if not competitiveness) of other teams.

As money becomes a larger and larger prerequisite for future success, in a winner-take-all scenario hoarding all the cash would likely produce diminishing marginal returns. As dominant as 'Bama has been over the years, can you imagine what it would be like if they kept every dollar they were responsible for generating?

I realize there are many schools in the SEC with rich football traditions that could stand on their own (at least for a while) but without the enormous revenue share due primarily to having a competitive conference, the lower-tiered programs (yes I'm including MU) would be less and less competitive and interest would begin to wane first at those schools and ultimately even the dominant schools (do you think the same number of Tide fans will be watching the Mercer game as say the LSU or A&M game?)

Not good overall for the conference or ultimately any particular team.
