i doubt SC fans will take this seriously, but they should take a long hard look at coach mark hudspeth from Louisiana-Lafayette. he has done impressive things considering its ULL, damn near upset Kentucky (which is a big deal for ULL), turned down Vanderbilt HC position a few years ago. He's a rock star in Lafayette area.

maybe jump from ULL to SC is a bit extreme but he has a huge future away from ULL if he wants it.

Fuentes at Memphis

Made it onto a list of suggestions for Southern Cal as well:
quote:

10. Justin Fuente

If USC was going to look at anyone without a long track record as a head coach, this would be the guy. His work at Memphis has been nothing short of miraculous, taking a program that was completely in the dumps and leading it to a 10-3 season in 2014 and a 5-0 start this year. He isn’t a flashy guy, but the former TCU offensive coordinator is going to outcoach most people he faces. His offensive schemes are fun, and his track record of developing quarterbacks (Andy Dalton and Paxton Lynch) is impressive.

Though Memphis-to-USC is a monumental jump — maybe too big — it wouldn't be terribly different than Jim McElwain going from Colorado State to Florida. That has worked out pretty well.

Haven't they just been accused of serious NCAA violations?

I can tell you ... the first two we will reach out to are Fuentes at Memphis and DJ Durkin at Michigan.

I'd be thrilled with either one.

Why in the actual frick would Mark Dantonio leave Michigan State for South Carolina? Dantonio has built a really good program at MSU and its a great school.

God no.

But can you imagine the "Nutt/Cock" jokes that could arise from that?

If not already mentioned, just go look at our Official Coaching Search thread on our board.

Yea I just scrolled through. Kliff was an interesting name to be thrown out but I wouldn't want him. Seems like Smart and Puente are the consensus top two realistic options.

After Lou Holtz and Steve, Carolina will be going younger this time. I doubt they even call Dantanio.

The same reason Paul Bryant left A&M to go home to Alabama. Mama called.

They'll call Dantonio first. Or their fans hope they do.

No we don't ... not most of us. He's happy where he is and we need a young energetic guy.
