He see and hear this line of thinking all the time, and it almost always turns out to be incorrect.

Whether he gets back into coaching or not, ending an otherwise great coaching career with a terrible stint in Jacksonville has to gnaw on him a little bit. He’s only 61. If he went to PSU and won a natty he would be the only coach to win one at three different schools. That would be impressive and a worthwhile challenge if he still has a little fire in him.

I kind of feel like he was just going through the motions from 2016-2018 at OSU. His teams were still extremely talented, but they didn't have that "dog" in them. Losing to Iowa and Purdue by 4 possessions in back to back seasons just shows you have lost the edge. Then the Jax issue was insane because he should never have been hired in the NFL. He's a guy who wants to run the zone read if possible which isn't an NFL type offense most of the time and defense adapt much faster

The 2016 blowout to Clempsun was n indicator that he wasn’t gonna stay much longer at OSU. He had a substandard offense that year and a QB who was limited on accuracy down the field and an elite team like Clempsun, when DeShaun Watson went Superman in the playoffs, and Venables as DC, just overwhelmed them.

Meyer got lazy with his coordinator hires and it showed. Tom Herman was ready gone to be a head coach and his replacement Tim Beck was terrible.

Beck/Ed W were both bad. The Clemson blowout led to Ryan Day which I couldn't be happier about of course

Why? They'll just have to fire him in five years.

What makes you think it's Elko?

We are going to see how much Elko really loves College Station. He’s definitely at a place with the resources to bring a championship but Penn State probably has of similar resources.

His options: continue building the ball club he’s already had turn a corner at a school that embraces him and will give him whatever he needs, or go start over at a program that’s in shambles.

That’s what it boils downs to.

Elko is not leaving A&M.

I'm not one to spit at $7 million but isn't that his salary? There are 10 coaches making over $10 million a year so he may at least get an extension with a $10 in front of his 6 zeros

Yes, but A&M won’t let PSU outbid them. I think we proved via Jimbo that we won’t count the cost when it comes to getting a championship.

So Meyers thinks Indiana just so happen to give their coach a $4 million dollar raise the week after Franklin was fired?

He was widely reported as their #1 target and they didn’t get him.

I think they’ll get Matt Campbell. He’d be crazy not to take a P2 job and Penn State would likely be his best opportunity.

Simply put, the main theme is.. he lost the locker room. The losses at UCLA & at home to Northwestern show that. Those are unforgivable.

Also, and not being a whatever troll or anything, but Penn State fans have been all over Mizzou sites or posts ..gushing about Beau Pribula. Like crazy..it's become apparent that Drew Allar, was being waited on ..to shine..and it never happened..and seeing Beau have decent success elsewhere..made the Penn St faithful mad..and turned them on Franklin even more..weird I know. After the Oregon loss..it snowballed.

That truly doesn't mean anything. If Cignetti's agent was doing his job, he was the one that leaked that out. And to Cig's credit, he's doing a hell of a job, which makes that tactic effective.

Rhule has been beaten by teams with far more talented rosters than his own though.

Optics wise I cant see boosters or fans being happy writing a $50m check to get rid of a guy for not winning ranked matchups, and then hiring a guy who is 2-23 against ranked teams

Not having a talented team with Temple and Baylor... Fair. With Nebraska I dont think thats the case. They have the #20 composite this year (ahead of Ole Miss) and still lost at home to a garbage Michigan team. The only reason that game was even close was because he hit a hail mary at halftime

If Elmo did leave, it definitely wouldn't be because of money.

I would be surprised if Campbell left. He's taken a pay discount almost his entire time at Iowa State (on purpose even to leave more money for assistants), he seems to love it there, and the fans will put up with down seasons. Like Cignetti at Indiana, that is a job where they will build statues and rename the stadium if he stays

If Duke beats Georgia Tech this weekend, I think Manny Diaz is their target

What I don’t get is why Penn State would pull the trigger and fire their coach so early in the season.
because when you really want to fire someone, you don't give him a chance to turn it around. You just do it quickly at the first opportunity you have.
