He wanted to be A&M's coach long ago, but they hired Fran instead. That worked out great.

Still stand by that statement. At least our boosters listened to Freeze on who to pay instead of coming to him demanding certain players get offers or else they would stop donations

won two natty's at Florida, no?

Well one was while saban was in tbe NFL and the other was the transition year of bama becoming the bama we know today. Meyer left town bc he wasn't better than what saban was becoming so it's odd that he'd want to go compete in the same state and division as him.

One season sans Saban.
second season at Alabama with Saban.

Post-2008, Meyer became Saban's bitch.

Why would he turn down Texas to take the Auburn job?

Could it be because he wants to play Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, and Georgia every year? Nah. I doubt that.

I was told he was looking at property in Auburn. But Urban Meyer does have family that lives in Auburn though.

He wants to raise cattle in Texas. He's gonna buy the Auburn Vet School and move it to his ranch in Garfield. It'll be in his UTex contract.

Because after they won the title in 06, their boosters have taken over everything and demand things be done their way. Or else they will pull money and support and actively lobby for you to be fired.

You don't have that at Auburn

The problem with Auburn's big money boosters, is that the meddling ones have sat on their Board of Trustees. They didn't have to withhold a damned penny. And good lord, did Rane and Lowder (RIP) frick up some shite in the worst way in some coaching searches and in the athletic department not too long ago.

Also, the current AD might be strong enough to keep a little distance between the money guys and the program. Jay Jacobs would have let them set up offices in the football complex if they'd wanted. He was a puppet.

The old boosters wanted Matt Luke hired, then when he was fired they wanted us to promote McIntyre to head coach because he was "an Ole Miss guy" somehow.

That's how Alabama got Dubose. It takes a tough AD to control the money guys.

What? Boosters have running Auburn and their AD for 40+ years.

AD's and even Presidents have been mere figureheads
