Agreed. But the SEC should be compensated for it. If not, do 8 for a couple years and revisit it. The SEC deal is long and there won’t be many more opportunities for increase. The B1G got a sweetheart deal because of the nature of its package - multiple broadcast partners some of who were desperate for content. But the SEC is providing actual value for why it wants more.
And I’m sorry but anybody who doesn’t want an extra conference game just so they can schedule more OOC is just wrong. You’re already getting an upgraded conference schedule no matter what.

Just bring those teams into the SEC. Problem solved.

Seems like a no-brainer to do the 6 rotational and 3 permanent, 9 game format. Just drop the one game P5 OOC requirement to offset that.
Auburn’s year one schedule assuming they were in the Alabama/Tennessee/Vandy pod would be:
Alabama
Tennessee
Vandy
Arkansas
Missouri
Oklahoma
Texas
Florida-4th place in division in ‘22
Texas A&M-4th place in division in ‘22
Yeah personally I’d rather switch with A&M and be in the LA/MS division but whatever.

Tanner has said he's a proponent of the 8 game model bc of who South Carolina has scheduled in the future as OOC games (in addition to our annual game with Clemson). I'm sure the "big dogs" will roll their eyes. We have additional games with UNC, NC State, Miami and Virginia Tech all scheduled as OOC games in the upcoming yrs along with Clemson. We don't want to cancel any of those. Go to a 9 conference game schedule and it would be idiotic to not cancel those additional OOC games so that we could still have 1 rent-a-win plus keep the rivalry game with Clemson intact.
That's my issue with going to 9 games. Only a few SEC schools are playing multiple P5 OOC annually.

As a matter of curiosity, I undertook the following analysis to determine mileage between schools, assuming to the extent possible each SEC school's closet 3 neighboring schools to create a pod. There were some constraints. For example,
the closest neighboring school to UF is Auburn (312 mi), but Auburn is closer to at least 5 other SEC schools than to UF. Mizzou, OU, and the Texas schools present similar problems for their nearest neighbor schools. Anyway, consider the following analysis, keeping in mind trying to pod together the 4 closest neighbor schools whenever possible.
A & M: OU(357 mi), UTex(107 mi), LSU(361 mi); Total mi 825
Ark: Mizzou(317 mi), OU(243 mi), UTex(530 mi); Total mi 1090
Auburn: Bama(157 mi), UGA(174 mi), UF(312 mi); Total mi 643
Bama: Auburn (157 mi), MSU(82 mi), OMiss(158 mi); Total mi 397
UGA: Auburn (174 mi), USC(166 mi), UF(351 mi); Total mi 691
USC: UGA(166 mi), UF(359 mi), TN(264 mi); Total mi 789
UF: Auburn(312 mi), UGA(351 mi), USC(359 mi); Total mi 1022
TN: USC(264 mi), Vandy(180 mi), UK(172 mi); Total mi 616
Vandy: TN(180 mi), UK(214 mi), Mizzou(432 mi); Total mi 826
UK: TN(172 mi), Vandy(214 mi), Mizzou(457 mi); Total mi 843
Mizzou: Ark(317 mi), Vandy(432 mi), UK(457 mi); Total mi 1206
MSU: Bama(82 mi), OMiss(101 mi), LSU(301 mi); Total mi 484
OMiss: Bama(158 mi), MSU(101 mi), LSU(334 mi); Total mi 593
OU: A&M(357 mi), Ark(243 mi), UTex(372 mi); Total mi 972
UTex: A&M(107 mi), Ark(530 mi), OU(372 mi); Total mi 1009
LSU: A&M(361 mi), MSU(301 mi), OMiss(334 mi); Total mi 996
There are obvious conflicts with these pods. For example, I have LSU in a pod with A&M, MSU, and OMiss and in another pod I have Bama in a pod with AU, MSU, and OMiss, but I don't have Bama and LSU in a common pod with OMiss and MSU. There are other such conflicts that would need to be resolved if distance between neighbor schools were used as a criterion for podding.

Bama even wins the mileage competition and it's not even "close".
Sometimes I wish the main campus of the University of Arkansas was in Little Rock because of the proximity to our more Southerly kinfolk. However, as a place to live and visit, Little Rock is sinking to Memphis/Saint Louis levels while Fayetteville is top 5 in the U.S.

Why doesn’t Arkansas, for example, not want to play Texas every year? I’m not sure that makes sense to me.
Where in the world did you get that idea? Arkansas definitely wants to play texas every year. That game should be a top priority for both programs to make happen.

It was just an example.. but if all of the “lower” revenue teams prefer the 1/7 model, then that would mean that Arkansas playing Texas each year was less important than whatever is causing them to vote against 3/6.
I agree with you. It should be played each year, which is why I said.. it doesn’t make sense to me why Arkansas would want the 1/7 model.

Updates" On New Scheduling? by 3rddownonthe8
For UGA, UF, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Kentucky. 8 games is really better if you can keep the instate P5 game, plus schedule P5 OOC. Then you get 2 FCS/G5 games. With a ninth , it makes if difficult because of the home & home aspect.
You nailed it with those of us who have in-state rivalries.
I'm of the opinion that at 16 teams, you SHOULD increase # of conf. games. The years you are 5H/4A, you VISIT the in-state school; 4H/5A you HOST the game...giving you 5H/5A each year.
Now, here's the catch: what about those who play 7H each year? In this format, WHO are you going to play that you will NEVER visit their stadium?

Drinkwitz just said Mizzou wants 9 SEC games when he was in St Louis ten days ago. Mizzou isn't a big pussy in this matter. Give us Arky, Oklahoma, and UK.

I'm not sold on Heupel yet. Hooker was an outstanding QB and Milton has improved but I think UT will win about 8 games this year and he'll probably be the OU coach in a year or two anyway. I said the same thing about Pittman when everyone was crowning him.

#1) Texas and OU don't have a vote. Remember this.....when A&M and Mizzou still haven't won the conference in 20 years, they will blame Texas for rigging whatever arrangement came in to place.
#2) I was solidly in the 3-6-6 camp but I am changing my mind. Let's go 1-7-7 so Texas can start playing some garbage OOC games like the rest of the SEC. Texas hasn't played an FCS team in 17 years.
