A monthly payment of $3,000 is pretty sorry.

Seems about right for a Holy Cross QB completing 43%.

Yep, it's going to end by schools saying football just isn't worth it any more.
Good luck with that Wal-Mart career for all those kids that got $100k a year in scholarship value and an immediate advantage in post college jobs. They were so terribly exploited.

This is what so many people do not understand. A lot of teams do not make much if any money. we only hear about the teams that make tons of money, but I would bet 50% or so do not make any money....or very little comparatively.
I posted it earlier, pages back. I didn’t search long and hard, but the numbers from 2019 (this was pre covid, so you can’t say it was because of covid) showed that 25 out of 130 FBS football programs were profitable. Over 100 lost money.
Depending on source, 82-88% of college athletic programs lose money.

What is the going rate for a quarterback from Holy Cross that has never completed more than 61% of his passes in a season? This season he is completing less than 50% of his passes. I would say $36,000 seems reasonable.
I don’t believe there was an actual agreement to pay him $100,000. If so, he should produce the contract. Very simple. If his agent was too stupid to not demand it in writing, then he needs to fire his agent.

Yeah. If the school can’t make the pay conditioned on performance, the student athlete can’t either.
The QB is getting shite advice from his agent. He might not play football again at this high of a level.

That statement from UNLV is strong. They just went scorched earth on him, his family and his agents.
Did anyone ever figure why Sluka deleted his tweet if he is in the right here?
I wonder if it has to do with that little snippet about it violating Nevada state law.
I would not be surprised if we learn that this guy got some very bad advice from his “agent”.

Dang, maybe your mob connection is correct.

Have to think a lot of agents are using the “strike while the iron’s hot” tactic to renegotiate terms if their client’s playing well.

That's a pretty damn bold statement from UNLV

You can't have anything in writing before signing. The family is saying it was OC Brennan Marion who told them $100k verbally I believe when he was visiting.

So, if Sluka’s agent did in fact violate NCAA pay for play rules, will that impact Sluka?
And to answer the earlier question of who to believe in this story, I am more inclined to believe the university than anyone else involved. I am sure they didn’t release that statement without one of their lawyers reviewing it first.

Multiple other sources are indicating it was $3,000 upfront and possibly $3,000 per month. Only the family and agent are saying $100,000 was promised.
People never lie. Especially about money.
If completing 43% of your passes is worth $100,000 a year, I need to go outside and start throwing the football.

I've never worked anywhere where it was considered a "team". I show up, do my job and hopefully get paid for it. Just for kicks though, since you're all for this player, if the guy was leading the nation in interceptions could the NIL collective ask for their money back or is it all guaranteed? Because if I don't produce at my job, I get fired.

“so you should not be paid at your job until early December, in a lump sum”
Harry,
You are comparing apples and oranges. They are getting a free education with all the perks. Any thing extra should not be paid until their season is complete. Period.
My job is by a contract. I get paid every month for time I have worked that month.
I don’t get paid in advance.
With NIL, nothing should be paid until the athlete’s season is complete. End of discussion. That should be the way the contracts are written across the board.
An athlete’s season is finite so once it is complete then they are entitled to all of their NIL compensation. After that they are free agents again for the next highest bidder.

I wonder how many teams will want this guy now. Who knows if it is true that another team had offered him more money to quit, take this year as a red shirt, and transfer there next season. But regardless, wherever he does go people are going to wonder if that happened and if they were the ones doing it.
This seems to be a first, having a player quit midseason over NIL. And this appears to be a clear case of pay for play. How many coaches out there are desperate enough to deal with possible blowback from that for a quarterback, who based on his stats; isn’t anything special?
Who thinks this might backfire on him? I do.

If someone, anyone, could provide this contract showing that Sluka was in fact promised $100,000 to play, you will get more support.
Right now it, it looks like he quit on his teammates over an agreement that didn’t exist. It looks like he may have tried to leverage the school for more money this season, and when they wouldn’t play ball he bailed. It true, that does in fact make him if not a gaping pussy a fricking idiot.
To test this, march into your bosses office in the morning and demand he double your pay immediately or you will quit. Let us know how that works out for you.
