College athletics is dead. It’s over.

I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled," Sluka posted on X. "Despite discussions, it became clear that these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future. I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the continued success of the program."

Good for him! I wonder how many times this happened before open NIL era and players were just stuck. If a collective doesn’t meet their obligations, then by all means sit out and transfer to someone else who will.

Yep, CFB is dead. I imagine FSU or ole miss will give this kid the bag for next year

Our next QB is already on the roster.

What if the player just keeps asking for more like quinshon did ole miss? Should quinshon owe the collective the money back that they had already paid and agreed on before he decided he deserved more? There is no stopping point. He could just ask for more again if yall agreed to his last terms. And ask for more again after that if you agreed to those terms.

Imagine being such a gaping pussy that you quit on your team in the middle of the season because you got your fee-fees hurt.

I couldn’t agree any more, some regulations have to be introduced or this is going to completely spiral out of control…and yes, what a quitter and I feel for his team

These programs are making money. Players deserve to get paid for making them that money. If you don't get paid what was agreed, then yes, stop working. Every single one of us would do the same. My work isn't free.

They are not employees.

I have a feeling that wasn't the case. I have a feeling someone reached out to him and offered him more money if he quit on his team to save a year if eligibility and transfer to them. Which I suppose is within your realm of moral compass since you claim he should quit immediately wherever and go to whomever offers him the most money. But that money is going to dry up because most consumers will lose interest. But you keep pretending this is good for the game.

Yeah this never happened before

That’s a different situation, a player might try to negotiate for more money but he’d have no where to go during the season and wouldn’t get any at all if he sat out, therefore not really be in a good bargaining position.
Here, the guy was not being paid/given what had been promised to him. If we weren’t delivering on what was agreed upon then I wouldn’t expect our guys to play either. This is a black eye on UNLV unless they come out w evidence that this isn’t true.

A 43% completion percentage. Yikes.

Not many contractors will complete a job if they don't get paid...at least not the ones that will be in business for very long.
I don't like it, but there is no sense in whining about it. Players are seeking compensation for services rendered. And that's fine, but then there is no reason a collective shouldn't pull their money if a player fails to perform.
And let's dispense with any talk of loyalty or family or whatever bullshite that has been historically used to foster camaraderie in a locker room. They are all just a bunch of hired guns in the NIL era.

Unlv football made 1.4 million in 2022. They lost money the 2 previous seasons

You're take is either every other kid on the roster is just electing to not receive their agreed compensation because they have no backbone and are just OK with it or UNLV is electing to pay every single player on the roster their agreed NIL deal with exception of the starting qb.
