University of Texas has multiple professional tennis players on their roster fact

Why are they allowed to have pro players on their roster? I am pretty sure the top two are ATP top 200. Have also played and won in grand slams. This whole thing needs some sanity .

Makes no sense. That’s the problem. Nobody wants pro athletes. We all want to win though. Of the rules are you can then why not do everything in your power under the rules to do it? This all was before any rule was on the books for LSU?

I only am saying the system is messed up. It seems if the SEC or NCAA makes a rule it would be for all college athletes.
For example.
Drug policies are the same for all.
They cannot pick and choose which sports can do it and which cannot. I hate it also

Seems like that’s something that should be considered of all this ever did go farther. Especially since the rule was after any contact “may” have occurred.

The “Texas has professional tennis players!” argument is a pretty good indication that some of you have absolutely no idea how college tennis works.
Elite junior and college tennis overlaps heavily with the professional circuit. Players can compete in ITF/WTA events, earn world-ranking points, play against professionals and, subject to NCAA eligibility rules, receive permissible prize money. The NCAA has specifically had tennis rules dealing with this reality for years.
And here’s the part that apparently needs to be written in crayon:
THIS IS NOT UNIQUE TO TEXAS.
Programs all over major college tennis recruit international players who have competed on the professional circuit and/or have WTA rankings and ITF experience. UNC, Texas A&M, Georgia, NC State, USC, UCLA, Oklahoma and plenty of others have had players competing in that ecosystem.
Hell, the ITF and ITA created a College Accelerator Programme with the WTA specifically connecting elite NCAA women’s players with spots in professional ITF World Tennis Tour events.
So calling them “professional players” as though Texas secretly hired Serena Williams and slipped her into the No. 2 singles spot is ridiculous.
If a player satisfies NCAA eligibility requirements, she’s a college tennis player. Period.
Texas didn’t invent the rules. Texas didn’t create the international tennis development system. And Texas isn’t the only school recruiting players with professional-tour experience.
You guys have simply discovered how elite women’s college tennis works and, because Texas is involved, decided it must be a scandal.

If you want to go down that route you should probably know that almost every d1 ncaa cross country team that is remotely competitive the last 10 years is chock-full of former professional runners from Europe (Africa actually) who can no longer cut it over there, so they “start university” in their early 30s

I am a tennis pro not just discovering the game. This was an example I knew off the top of my head. Their number one has made over 295,000. Reached second round in a few grand slams. Not just some guy playing UTR college/pro events or futures during the summer swing.
I am saying now is the time to just end it all. We don’t want pro players in any sport. Make it a clear distinction. There needs to be a standard.

Exactly my point. Why is there not a standard for every student athlete in every sport. Seems like it would be much better that way.
