Such an odd thing for Florida fans to constantly be obsessed over. It worked out great for BOTH schools. We are doing great (compared to our norm) and Florida got even better too. Win win for everyone. Florida fans always pretend it's an insult though which is just really strange.

If you can't see the humor in Georgia hiring Mike White out of all the candidates that you could have hired, including Todd Golden, I don't know what to tell you. It wasn't a bad hire, but it also wasn't a great hire. You chose mediocre, and some of the Georgia fans were doing a victory lap for "stealing" him.

I'm not really big on stupid arse threads like this, but on the rant this is not an odd thing for rivals to make fun of each other. It's poor form imo, but not odd at all.

And no one knew anything about Golden yet. Well maybe a few people who knew him or listened to him, but he was far from the star of the coaching hires that year. Many thought Mike White was the better hire. But it turns out he was not.

Best college basketball hires of 2022

To sum it up, this is all we got right now because you have been kicking our arse badly in football for a while.

do you not see the irony here? Hindsight is a tricky thing. The fact that Golden ended up being a grand slam (at Florida, who knows what he'd do at a lesser program) doesn't diminish the fact that we hit a home run ourselves. I mean Jans and Gates were also listed above White on the list you linked and I certainly wouldn't want them over White.

Believe it or not, it IS possible for a situation to work out for the best for all parties. This is one of those times, but because we went from bad to pretty good, while florida went from pretty good to great, y'all seem to think that we are the loser of the transaction, which simply isn't true no matter how much you paint it to be.

Mike White is the Basketball version of Richt, the program is improved, stable, and will never win a Championship but that beats the basement we were in prior.

So there is no irony in hiring a coach from your rival, who then hires quite possibly the best coach in the country for less money, when you could have hired him? Not even a small slice of irony there?

I think your fellow UGA fans would all disagree that Mike White was a home run hire for Georgia. You fail to see that you could have gone from bad to great, as if Georgia has limitations in basketball. I guess you didn't witness Indiana football these past 2 seasons either.

But hey if you say you are happy with the way things have turned out, and can't find any irony whatsoever in the situation, more power to you sir!

I never argued that Mike White was the better coach. Frankly, I didn't know much about him or Golden.

Florida is just a different opportunity for Basketball. Atlanta kids end up at the Blue Bloods while UF is cherry picking all the major metros in Florida.

UF has done a great job at going from the outhouse to the penthouse since 2000.

I didn't even know who Mike White was till I read this thread and looked it up. (Yawn)....spring football practice can't start soon enough.

This situation says more about UGA basketball than anything else. White wasn’t brought in as a program-changer. He was the most stable, proven option available to a program that’s been stuck near the bottom since the dawn of time. If we want different results, the investment and expectations have to change.

Thanks UGA for taking Mike White!

And we hate you for hiring a better football coach than we are apparently capable of.

The staggeringly low expectations of Georgia fans Here is embarrassing. I don’t give a shite what our history says. We should expect more from our program. Settling for 1st rd exists isn’t much to be proud of

If you're a basketball fan, Personally, I'd rather watch congressmen debating Ad Valorem taxes on CSPAN than watch a round-ball game. I realize that bugs the crap out of our rival fans on this forum. They want desperately bad to rub it in our face that our bb team struggles. They can't stand it if they think there are UGA fans on here that don't care.

These “fans” don’t care about basketball because there is no basketball culture in Athens. If we had Kentucky’s history, I guarantee there would be more attention.

You're welcome. And thank YOU for hiring Will Muschamp, Jim McElwain, Dan Mullen, and Billy Napier. Keep up the good work.

This. Florida has a dead football program. Definitely jealous of their basketball success tho.

Not mad at all. Just turn the attention to MLS and ATP, frankly

UGA in basketball can't do better than Mike White.

If we do hire a better coach (like Tubby Smith for example), they'll soon leave (which Smith did).

The only OTHER way to bet a better coach is to get one with warts... like Jim Harrick. Great coach... but LOTS of warts which came back to bit us.

White is top of the line for UGA. He is getting us to the tournament regularly but he's not a hot enough coach to go elsewhere. He's our peak.

It's kind of like Ole Miss in football. They can hire great coaches like Tommy Tubberville or Lane Kiffin. But they'll leave for a better job. The best "long term" coach for them in football is a guy like Cutcliffe.

UGA fans might one day believe they "deserve" a better basketball coach and fire White. But that's just a lack of self awareness. That isn't what we are in basketball.
