Actually, it's good business sense. Companies and organizations aggressively challenge potential trademark violations all the time, even when they don't think they'll win. This helps keep other potential trademark/copyright violators on their toes and scares off people who don't want or can't afford a legal battle when they know they're likely to be taken to court by the company in question. It's entirely possible the Bama lawyers don't expect to win, they just want to make sure that message gets out there. This is especially important in cases like this one, where people might try to skirt the line in hopes that the university won't consider it worth their time. The university is telling them that it will go after them

You can't sell licensed material without consent...correct? Or has something changed I wasn't aware of..

No. Its not the same script A. It makes no mention of the University whatsoever. I don't think they have a case.
The hell they don't. The A doesn't have to be a 100% exact replica.

And anyone who understands how licensing works understands this.
School yearbook companies won't publish a logo that's even close to a replica of a trademarked corporate logo.

Depends on context, but it kinda does. You can't trademark the general idea of a script A, which is why Bama and the Braves can both trademark their own versions. The Braves would likely object if Bama started selling licensed shirts using the Braves' version for whatever reason, and vice versa. The context might change the argument to a degree, but trademarks and copyrights are pretty specific

Let's try this again. The below image shows Bryant wearing a hat with said A in 1958. The Braves were in Milwaukee then.
So...if anything, Atlanta stole the A from us.

This sounds like a job for Alexander Shunarrah. "Somebody's stealing your "A"? Call me, Alabama! Let me be your attorney!"

quote:Bama had the script "A" before there were any Atlanta Braves.
And for that matter, if Alabama has a case against Clay Travis, then the Atlanta Braves have a case against Alabama. Bama just added a little mark at the top to their logo... making a slight, subtle change to the Braves "A" and otherwise copied it.
The Braves moved to Atlanta in 1966; before then they had the block M.

That "A," by itself, isn't trademark infringement against UA, but the combination of the "A," the colors, the CFBP trophy, and the reference to a Hawaiian player -- all of which, taken as a group, could only refer to one particular team -- certainly is trademark infringement and the unlicensed use of brand identity.
Travis will milk this for all the coverage he can get and then fold.

Don't.
Clay Travis profits from it.

Now Clay is doing it back to Bama, making a subtle change and they can't handle it.
I once regarded you as an intelligent poster, but it appears that you're actually an imbecile.

Why where the Braves using a script A in Milwaukee?

It won't be Bama that can only do that.
I'm pretty sure the image of the cfp trophy is copyrighted. They just haven't seen the shirt yet. When the cfp sees it, a cease and desist order will follow shortly.
To be so well educated, he's a complete ignorant dumbarse.
