AL.com - Alabama trustees meeting agenda to include Arena

quote:

Years of talk about the home of Alabama basketball and gymnastics appear to be headed toward action.

The University of Alabama board of trustees are set to meet Thursday and Friday in Birmingham with a few athletics construction matters on the agenda. First, there’s an item for approving “the final project budget for the Bryant-Denny Stadium renovation and addition.”

A few lines later, there’s a resolution to approve the project scope and budget for the “Athletics Competition Arena.” That would indicate the momentum toward building a new facility over renovating Coleman Coliseum was moving toward reality.

The agenda items will be addressed Thursday afternoon as part of the trustees’ physical properties committee. The board will meet in Birmingham on Thursday and Friday.

I heard they were going to build it in McCalla near the new Amazon warehouse and share it with UAB?

UAB doesn't need to share

Bartow is a legit good arena

frankly I'm jealous of the place - I even saw a Wilder fight there

What more is there to renovate and add on to BDS? Has the entire stadium been pretty well overhauled in the last 10 years or so?

It's the sort of shite we have to do to convince the old rich folks to let us have our liberal basketball arena. Who knows, probably take more plebe seats for a newer, more expensive, super duper sky club 4.0 or something.

About time. I knew it wouldn't be long if we got over 20 million to update my sport's facility, right at 4 years ago. If they had money for that, you knew they'd come through for our gymnastics team.

I may be speaking to old info but this renovation was mostly about a face lift to the exterior, making the luxury boxes bigger or adding more (by removing regular seating), and other infrastructural improvements.

George, I'm pretty sure that is precisely what is happening. General pop seating decrease to fit more boxes in for corporate stakeholders.

Of course it is. They kicked me out of my seats 2 years ago and they'll probably kick me out of my new seats this time around.

Where would they build it ? Not much room on Campus without tearing down something.

UAB needs to dissolve all of their athletics programs. They’re a drain of resources and provide no discernible benefit to the University of Alabama system.

Not good to put a lot of money into non-football sports.
