Funny, my nephew who lives in S ga had excellent grades and test scores. He couldn’t get into UGA but got into UF.

You continue to show your ignorance. I'm sure Georgia is far behind in that particular study. But Engineering is really new at UGA. They will make strides. But right now, if you want engineering GT is the better choice. Give them a few years. I suspect, if they want it bad enough, they will rise in rankings quickly.
But just because someone goes to some prestigious school for a particular discipline doesn't mean a lot in and of itself.
There is a joke:
In a class of 1,000 at Harvard Medical School....do you know what they call the guy that finishes #1,000 in the class?
Doctor.

Honestly? I was against HOPE when they were first discussing it for a myriad of reasons. I have to admit it has helped in a lot of ways educationally...like you said.
I don't like the corruption that comes in with it, though. But that's for another time.

Why were you against it?
Only thing that sucks is you get screwed if you aren't on it. Really drove up tuition and fees.

Never heard that it was. I would say Vanderbilt or Texas A&M would be.

Since you never attended a university, I'll explain to you how they work. Certain universities are strong in certain areas, depending on need. Since Emory is one of the best medical schools in the country, UGA finds no need to have a medical school. We do, however, have a strong affiliation with Augusta University, which has a campus in Athens. Also, UGA and Emory have a very close affiliation.
Since Georgia Tech has such a fine engineering school, much, much better than Auburns, UGA does not find the need to focus on engineering. Very few states of Georgia's size would have competing engineering schools. It just wouldn't make sense, economically.
Some of you Auburn fans are bragging about your 66th ranked engineering school (several places behind Tennessee's) in comparison to UGA's. UGA does not, nor has it ever, focused on engineering due to the afore-mentioned reasons.
UGA's professional schools focus on Law, Journalism and Mass Comm., Business, Veterinary Medicine, et al. Many of these schools are ranked in the top 25 nationally. UGA's vet school, for example, is #10.
Congrats to Auburn for having the #66 ranked engineering school in the country. That's really something for a school in the state of Alabama to hang your hat on. However, comparing Auburn's engineering school to UGA's is like comparing law schools of the two (Auburn ain't got one).
My OP was a bit tongue-in-cheek in response to all of the Auburn "our grads make more than UGA's", which is preposterous. As a university, UGA is a much higher ranked university than Auburn, and UGA sends grads all over the country and the world, while Auburn grads tend to be more regional. I'm painting this with a broad brush, as I know that some UGA alum stay in the southeast, and some Auburn alum are international. My point is that Auburn grads certainly do not earn more than UGA grads. You don't even have a law school.
As I mentioned, my OP was tongue-in-cheek and most didn't get it. There have only been three SEC schools to win a CFP National Championship; Bama, LSU and UGA. Of those three, UGA is the highest-ranked university, academically, by a good margin. Vandy and UF are higher ranked universities, but neither have won a CFP National Championship.

But...
Your State Government ripped it out from Georgia Tech financially.
To make UGA look good.
Like I said, UGA Engineering is a joke. Lottery money paid for that in scratch-offs.
It is like a rich Grandma giving a stupid niece a lamborghini and asking her how to drive a straight 5.
Stupid.

I’m letting it rest. UGA is a fine institution of higher learning.. you will be fine with a degree from there.

Medical College of Georgia.
That is what we call it.

Lmao...your public ignorance noted. Obviously the UGa academic/athletic cheating scandals of the 1980’s and 2003 didn’t come to mind?

$80,000 starting out is fine with me.
$3,000,000 at age 59.5 is a good life knowing that you went to a University in a little cow pasture.
Compound interest and knowledge of Math is very powerful if you actually use it correctly.
Have fun slaving in Georgia for English and Teaching Degrees.
$50,000 per year is a joke for a B.S.

Both of my kids were on it back when it pretty much covered everything but room & board.
I figured they would funnel the money into other places...and sure enough it came out that that was exactly what they began doing. After that the kids got less of the money. I'm not sure if they ever corrected that or not, but they siphoned some of the money off into other non-HOPE areas. I don't remember all of the details though.
Another reason is because while a ton of people play the lottery a lot of people are lower income people. Many of which are on government subsidies. There are lots of reasons, but it doesn't matter. It went through, and like I said...it did more good than I thought it would.

There was no 2003 scandal. And most of the people on this board were not even alive in the 80s when UGA broke their own self imposed rules - not NCAA rules.
