You're a flagship state school roughly 70 miles from Atlanta and have 1 F4 from 40 years ago and 1 SEC title from over 30 years ago to show for it. You haven't even won an NCAA tournament game in over 20 years and are almost 300 games below .500 in SEC play.

All true as rain...and no one loosely of solidly affiliated with the University of Georgia could care less. UGA has the resources to be a basketball powerhouse. There is no demand for it it because basketball is not important in the state. AT any level. It is a nice past time from about December when football is in a bit of a lull and loses all interest in late December and Early January when football is once again interesting and by the end of January there is too much going on in life to sit in front of a TV or worse inside a gym and watch officials direct a show. I get that many people enjoy it and I am happy for them but folks enjoy wrestling also...and there is not a nickels difference in organized basketball at any level and pro wrestling.

Auburn is ahead of the curve. You've already given up on football.

Even if Bama wins the basketball title... I wonder if they'd rather have a football title and a .500 season in basketball like UGA did or have a non-playoff football season and win a basketball title.

From a UGA perspective, we'd take the football title and irrelevance in other sports if that was the choice. I think most other teams would too. Not sure about Bama as they have a lot of football titles... maybe that makes basketball more appealing for them.

I'd literally trade a Saban era football national title for a basketball one no questions asked. So yea, I'd be cool with going 11-2 and finishing in the Top 5 and winning a basketball national title.

But Alabama has had a legitimate basketball fanbase for 50 years (since CM showed up). It isn't Arkansas or Kentucky, but there are a ton of Alabama people who LOVE Alabama basketball. We have had very good to great crowds consistently for decades - in a terrible arena with very average to slightly above average teams. It does not take much for Alabama basketball fans to buy into the program (see crowds during Grant and Avery's tenures).

The notion that Alabama fans don't care at all about basketball primarily comes from the massive sidewalk fanbase who, for the most part, only cares about Alabama football. Compared to most of the SEC we have a large basketball fanbase, and have for a really long time.

I second that. Watching Alabama run through the tournament to a Natty is as good as the 5th or 6th time we won a Natty under Saban.

I can understand why it’s hard for Georgia fans to relate given the 40 year drought they had.

Fun trivia: John Wooden turned down UGA opening in 1950s bc of segregation.

He probably wouldn't have had Sam Gilbert to buy players though if he left Los Angeles.

Yeah, I'd probably cope this hard too if I was unfortunate enough to be an Auburn fan.

Sad.

The rules are simple: If you talk about something sexy, you must post pics.

I wasn't being critical, and it's silly for you to call this a Georgia thing.

The reality is Alabama is the only team who's won CFB titles frequently enough the last decade that getting a basketball title might be more important to them because they have so many recent football titles.

I'm pretty sure everyone else in the conference (and probably in the nation) would prefer a football title.

Maybe after UGA has 5-6 in a 10 year span I'd desire a basketball title ahead of "yet another football championship"... but I'm not there after 2. And nobody other than bama has more than 2 in the last 15 years in football. Clemson also has 2 and everyone else who has one only has one. You have to go back 20 years for another school to have 3 (LSU).

I can't speak for djs, but come on. This thread isn't "specifically" about basketball. It is specifically about taking a shot at Georgia by a fan of a team Georgia specifically humiliated on the national stage in football the last time they thought they had a good football team.

The back to back has really made him a simple minded poster.
