I get why UCF doesn't want to take the 2 for 1 offer, but they should have anyway. The excitement they could have generated around those games would have been tremendous.
Back when FSU was building their program in the 1980's, they could've had the same "we'll only take home and home" games attitude. Instead, they played Nebraska, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, and LSU all on the road consecutively in 1981.
By going 3-2 during that stretch, FSU gained a level of respect they might not otherwise have enjoyed in subsequent years.

Why not do a home and home with a 3rd neutral site game? It's ridiculous that P5 schools continue to exclude teams like UCF from the playoff, but have no problem counting those wins against La Tech, Liberty, and the Citadel.
Just expand the playoff to 8 teams already. Give P5 Conference Champs auto-in, Best of the Rest to a non-P5 team and 2 wild card teams.
