An entertaining thread but Bama must get by a "very, very, very good" North Texas team first.

(Saban's words in quotes, not mine
)

He actually said North Texas State.

Can someone please answer my question. Did Arkansas have a better chance of beating Alabama coming into last season's game compared to coming into this season's game?

Other than playing at your house this go around yes. Yall had the returning Heisman winner, coming off a Natty Title with the majority of that team back and were being talked about like you were the best team since Miami in 2002

ETA: Dareus/Julio jones/was Arenas still there? dont remember, but yall were suppossed to roll through unscathed last year.

ETAx2: And you weren't breaking in a new QB either.

So yes those are several reasons why I think we've got a better shot this year. Granted home field advantage is a huge factor, and should've won us the game last year, but we let it slip away.

Alabama has proven for three years straight that they can have a good or elite defense. Arkansas has yet to prove anything defensively, yet every year people claim their defense has magically became good.

Last year Bama's defense got outplayed by USC and LSU, two teams that Arkansas shut down. Arkansas and Bama each gained 421 yards against each other.

Last year, your D was good enough for 4th in the West, ours was a BCS defense but didn't show up in the first half of the bowl game. We are better this year on defense, because like I've said, we've added better players and become more experienced.

You sure that's all. I guess only having two starters returning on defense last season had nothing to do with anything. No Arenas was not on last years team. The only returning starter in the secondary was Mark Baron. Alabama had a true freshman in Milliner playing from day one.

Defense wasn't the reason Alabama was 10-3 in 2010. And it wasn't the reason Arkansas was 10-3.

Maybe so, but there is a difference between losing 1 First Rounder and losing 4 First Rounders.

We heard these same kind of arguments going into 2009, when Andre Smith, and much of the offense, moved on.

I'm thinking you attributed that quote to the wrong person, or have a different perspective on "luck", because is going for five straight against Arkansas.

Dude regardless, you had McElroy who hadn't lost a game since 1st grade or some shite, returning Heisman winner, Julio etc. I think your team last year was way morre talented on O. Im not saying we're going to win for sure, but if we get a lead again like we did last year you won't come back this time. And we're scoring over 20, I don't care if we have to throw it every single play we score 20+

Bump this thread when it doesn't happen and I'll eat crow.

We score 3 TD's in that game. Yall might score 5, or 2 I don't know, but we score at least 3 Td's.

If we don't i'll be shocked.

I think it's going to be a good game. I do not think Arkansas will have success running in the middle against Alabama and that's where you have to establish some effectiveness to open Alabama up.

I also think being on the road will cause Arkansas to have alot of penalties that may help stall some drives and prevent Arkansas from getting any type of rythem going offensively. Arkansas already has picked up a few penalties at home running a vanilla offense against cupcake defenses. I do not expect that to change much on the road, against a very good defense, and trying to creat mismatches.

I agree that we need some run game to win, no doubt, but we'll score 3x's if it takes 60 passes to do it. We probably won't win the game with that many passes.

So what. We scored more points on the road against Penn State this year than we did at home last season and we only had 50 more yards last season. We had more rushing yards aginst them this season. They actually have a better defense this season than they did last season with Mike Mauti back at linebacker and Devon Still having more experience.

I think we have a better chance this season. 1) Mallett choked in the big games. 2) Our defense has improved because they have another year under their belts. Near the end of last season, you saw the defense shore up. Our front 7 are very good.

Bama has a great secondary. I think you guys have the capability to lock down at least 3 of our receivers.

Didn't McElroy throw 1 or 2 picks last year? AJ is gonna throw 8!

I am not here to predict a winner but getting back to the original post. Alabama has the advantage on teaching technique probably but I don't think their coaching staff get any advantage at all on other teams when both have extra time to prepare. Advantage on that one point goes to Ark!
