Turns out this isn’t the first time Alan Judd (AJC) has made stuff up

From the Louisville Courier-Journal back in 1988:
Yikes.
From the Louisville Courier-Journal back in 1988:
quote:
Hawpe said that after the stories appeared, the paper was forced to issue 10 corrections, two clarifications and a statement from a high school teacher challenging the story’s reference to him. One of the two reporters who worked on the series has resigned — Alan Judd, 28, a rising star who had been at the paper for almost six years. Judd, contacted at his home, said that he had nothing to say at this time. He would not elaborate on a comment he made to the Associated Press on Sunday that “the entire story has not been told.”
Hawpe said that after people who were quoted began to challenge statements attributed to them in the paper, the editors asked to review Judd’s tape recordings of some interviews. Hawpe said crucial interviews had been recorded over and one contained “only background noise” instead of conversation Judd believed was on the tape.
Yikes.

Some sports journalists make stuff up all the time.
Just about all so-called "journalists" do it these days ... or, at the very least, they become word and story manipulators. Word salad tossers. It's gained acceptance over the past couple of years with media attacking Trump, fabricating stories and telling lies while covering for the Bidens at every turn.
Now it's leaking/pouring over into sports unfortunately. ESPN does it, the AJC ... the NYTs just dumped their sports pages and instead farmed it out to The Athletic after a couple of high profile journalistic malfeasance issues. LA Times soon to follow.
It's everywhere, it's rampant and ... cudos to UGA for fighting back. More programs should do it. Back in the day Sports Illustrated ruined more than a few careers with bogus unsubstantiated claims against programs and individuals.

It became acceptable with the demise of the fairness doctrine and emergence of 24 hour cable “news” based on market principles without the ability to blame their reporting on licensing requirements. The ONLY guardrails in place today is the courts. It’s most definitely what should have happened from a free speech POV in a free market but it has created a helluva mess that was predicted with the emergence of TV and had bipartisan support through 1987 when it was vetoed. As TV “ journalism goes so goes print media…

I still want to know if and/or how he still has a job. I'm usually not for media conspiracy theories, but Judd fricked up. Or at least he got caught fricking up.

I was wondering when that happened.

AJC sports content is complete garbage
They lost a lot of credibility when they wrote numerous articles stating that the Braves move would be a disaster (just to watch it become a massive success)
Judd can stick it where the sun doesn’t shine
If we never had to hear from Chip Towers again it would be too soon as well
DawgNation would also be wise to dump Griffith

he said mean things about a sports team of teenagers that I like
But you know that

The AJC was, at least we'll into the 2000s, (I'm not sure about now, I've been out of it for awhile) ... the AJC was the last remaining major independent newspaper in the country. Their Editorial Board was insanely independent if not downright contrarian and even combative at times.
I think the last big story they broke/published was the Olympic Village bombing, Richard what's his name who's life they ruined before trying-to backwalk the damage they caused.
The big papers are going-down. The AJC is incapable of saving its brand, even online, unless they are able to find the next sensationalist story to pedal.
This UGA story seems, to me at least, to have been the desperate flailings of a drowning brand. I doubt this will end well for the AJC as it appears they'll lose on every level ... most importantly, in the court of public opinion especially among the massive UGA fan base in the state of Georgia (which is the AJC's base constituency).
Perhaps they're banking on the combined followings of UGA rivals Auburn, GA Tech and Bama fans living in Georgia to carry them in this calculated attempt at being relevant again but, it's a weak ploy.

I wish the UGA posters took the criminal complaints as seriously as they do going after anyone that talks about them.
But then again if the university took the same hardline stance against the behavior that generated double digit criminal complaints that it took against the AJC they likely wouldn’t have all this bad press.

The whole point is that there haven’t been double digit criminal complaints. Neither the university, the UGA EOO, the ACCPD, or the AJC can figure out where the the hell that claim came from. That’s the whole point of the letter from UGA legal and the point of Judd’s history - it appears to be a fabrication (just like the claim that UGA keeps those players actually accused of wrongdoing on the team when that’s also blatantly false).

quote:Your whole argument is predicated on a “11 complaint” accusation which literally hasn’t been and will not be substantiated. The whole point of this thread is calling the source of the claim into question.

Shameful for the AJC to hire a guy essentially fired from his first job for making shite up.

You are either dishonest or misinformed. The news folks are some of the biggest scumbags on the planet. in my opinion the largest problem the country faces is the 2nd amendment protections that the press use to smear people they don't align with politically.
