Boosters provide the funds, it's the coaches who tell the boosters where the money needs to go. It's been this way in major college sports since at least the 80s and likely before.

Given that we're losing two starting seniors and possibly Bone and Grant, that wouldn't exactly be a bad accomplishment.

Dude, that’s a hilarious take. Talk about a lack of self awareness....

I've never seen a fanbase this obsessed with a guy they wanted gone simply because they thought they were going to get themselves an upgrade. It's not like Barnes wrecked their program.

Barnes, despite his constant penchant for melting down in March, still has infinitely more postseason success than his successor

Oh, no...we only made the Sweet 16 with 3-star talent.

What are we going to do? Our program is ruined!!!

Compare these two scenarios, and tell me which should be more upset with their coaching situation (over the last 3 seasons for comparison):

3 consecutive top 10 recruiting classes, finishing with 1 season with no post-season play; #10 NCAA seed with first round loss and NIT #2 seed. $3.20 Million base salary with $13.8 Million buyout

or

3 recruiting classes ranked between 49 and 115, finishing with 1 season with no post-season play; #3 NCAA seed with second round loss; #2 NCAA seed with sweet-16 loss. $3.25 Million base salary with $5.0 Million buyout.

Is there no depth?
What about a five star recruit?

FWIW
I don’t think Shaka Smart is the answer at UT
And I think it was time for UT and Barnes to part ways

On paper, we're replacing a 3* with a 5* but Schofield is far more than that. If both Grant and Bone stay, we should be set for a good season.

I agree
but what I'm trying to say is the SUPER talented 5 starts and even some 4 stars make instant impact.

Now days you don't need to be a team just full of seniors to win and the whole "well they were too young to win" is outdated. Of the recent title winners look at them, full of super talented frehsman and sophomores.

Sure you need them and you will have Grant back, I don't expect him leaving for the NBA considering he won't be a high pick.

But if Barnes can recruit like he did at UT, it shouldn't be an issue.

TBH Tennessee accomplished a lot making it to the Sweet Sixteen.
Texas made the little dance reserved for middle of the pack teams.
It’s like a participation trophy.
Congrats

His first classes weren't that high on paper at all but that worked out pretty well for us. He's recruiting well now and we should have a pretty good team next season.

I'm hoping for a smooth transition.

It doesn’t make a frick if he gets a team full of studs. He ain’t making past the sweet 16. Period. That’s just who rick Barnes is.

We're never going to be UK, KU, UNC, Duke, or any of the other mbb elites.

Barnes had us #1 for a month (longest school streak, only second #1 ranking ever), SEC champs last year, and a sweet sixteen birth this season. He's improved our team each year.

I think we're just happy being a player and in the conversations for NCAA title's. I'll take his current production all day every day for as long as he wants to stay.

Agreed

But that was because at the time they were bad.
He's had to good teams the last two years, now he needs to build off that.
But he has a past of doing that (building good recruiting classes)

Something Frank Martin couldn't do...And we all should have seen this from what he "built" at KSU.

I tend to agree here.
But maybe he can change that.

I'm just saying that what he needs to do is get studs now because he will need the talent.

In just my opinion. He'll be lucky with an Elite 8 maybe.

I don't see Tennessee winning a basketball title under him.

Whoop-de-freakin-doo.

Tennessee only made it to the Sweet-16...Tennessee has been to the Sweet 16 eight times in the history of the program.

Tennessee didn't win the SEC Tournament...Tennessee hasn't won the SEC tournament in 40 years.

Tennessee didn't win the regular season title...well, they won it last year, for only the 10th time in the history of the program.

I'm just reveling in the fact that we don't have a coach taking us to the NIT with a $13 Million buyout.
