Is the #1 team before the NCAA Tourney also the champion?

I saw a Kentucky team who lost every single SEC road game get to a Final Four.

I hate UK but this is when they shine. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they make a run to the Final 4

So the Georgia team who won the tournament in 2008 was a better team than the SEC regular season champion? I don’t think so

You remember that Georgia won that tournament. Bet you couldn’t tell me who the regular season champ was that season without looking it up.

Because it was an aberration, which makes it memorable. I bet most couldn't tell you who won the tournament in 2009 off the top of their head.

Same coach that won the tournament today with the same team that lost it today

As a fan of team that doesn’t do well in either since joining the SEC I disagree. Regular season shows long term success and big wins on the road.

A team can get hot for 3-4 games and win conference tournament with a shitty record.

This is the only acceptable answer and this very well said.

Let’s put it this way, sans investigation would you have rather had LSUs season or Auburn’s? The answer for everyone every year would almost always be LSU’s.

I don't agree with that. It's not like Auburn had a terrible year and then pulled off a miracle in the tournament. We have a good team and had a good season. Both teams won 26 games. Both teams are ranked. Both teams are probably going to get 4 seeds in the NCAAT.

Besides AU was in the exact same position as LSU last year - surprise team claws their way to a gritty first place finish in the SEC regular season, then craps out in the SEC tournament and gets a 4 seed.

I like what we did this year better. Find an identity, finish strong and earn that 4 seed.

Are you going to argue a Final Four or better is less than a SEC Regular Season Championship?

Are you going to argue that a SEC Championship doesn’t mean anything?

Are you going to play the CNN moving the goal posts game?
And the what if game?

What if you don’t make it past the second round?

You don’t agree because you’re an AU fan, but if you were anyone else that isn’t trying to stick it to LSU then you would agree.

And you’re right, AU had a fine year and I’d be super excited about a tournament title too. But I’d take the regular season all day, everyday.
