Damn, we didn't stack up so well. But Bert said we were gonna "out Bama" Bama.

Well, UGa does play GaTech and Vandy every year. And UF's QB situation has been even more traffic than LSU's during the period in question.

I'm not sure what your point is here, but in 2014 Georgia Tech smashed Mississippi State in the Orange Bowl and generally averages over 300 yards per game rushing, one of the best in all of college football.

Good Lord. Imagine how bad the stats would be but for Bert's ball control offense and the one year we had a good defense.

He’s referring to UGA’s pass defense numbers. The teams he mentioned have putrid passing offenses and UGA plays all three of those teams every year

I get it was teh expansion timetable, but putting LSU's 2011 would really help our rankings I think

(and Bama's)

Two greatest defenses I've ever seen.

If we went back to 2011 (for everybody)

LSU's Defense:
Total YPG: 313.9 (6th in the nation, 3rd in the SEC)
Rush YPG: 122.0 (6th in the nation, 2nd in the SEC)
Pass YPG: 191.9 YPG (Tied for 6th in the nation, 4th in the SEC) <-- WOW at the SEC in this spot.

One component that I've left off in both threads only because we were talking about yards, is Points Per Game.

Sticking to the 2012-2017 time frame, LSU's PPG allowed was 19.32, good for 4th in the nation. If we count 2011, LSU moves to 3rd with 18.07.

Again, when I added 2011, I did so for all teams.

For fun, here is what the top 10 in the nation looks like for PPG Allowed from 2011-2017

1. Alabama 13.13
2. Wisconsin 16.96
3. LSU 18.07
4. Florida State 18.70
5. Michigan 19.37
6. Florida 19.68
7. Michigan St 19.69
8. Ohio State 19.76
9. Stanford 20.04
10. Virginia Tech 20.54

And now 2012-2017 PPG Allowed

1. Alabama 13.89
2. Wisconsin 16.61
3. Florida State 19.28
4. LSU 19.32
5. Clemson 19.43
6. Ohio State 19.56
7. Florida 19.57
8. Michigan 19.70
9. Stanford 19.74
10. Michigan St 19.92

at Clemson's 2011 defense.

Sorry, I was referring to the Dawg fan crowing about the pass defense numbers.

EXCELLENT point!

We can take a look at Yards/Play to get a better idea.

I didn't want to use it here only because we don't see that stat often, so it's difficult to comprehend the value and what it means in comparison to other teams. So seeing something like "Team A's defense allows 6 yards per play as opposed to Team B's defense which allows 5.45 yards per play," doesn't really mean as much to us as "Team A allows 425 yards per game and Team B allows 373 yards per game."

Anyways, here are the stats for yards per play allowed since 2012

1. Alabama: 4.35
8. Florida: 4.83
11. LSU: 4.90
18. Georgia: 5.02
29. Missouri: 5.30
35. Vanderbilt: 5.40
37. Ole Miss: 5.40
44. Auburn: 5.45
53. South Carolina: 5.52
59. Mississippi St: 5.58
68. Texas A&M: 5.68
73. Tennessee: 5.75
86. Kentucky: 5.86
101. Arkansas: 6.03

No one noticed Vandy 5th on the YPG list? That's the only surprise for me.

Yeah I'm pretty sure our yards per play given up in 2016 was the worst in P5 in like the last 20 years or something like that.

Amazing how you go from having a top 10 defense to that in just two years.

All things considered, you have to realize that Florida didn't have the luxury of playing Florida's offense, or our numbers would have been even better.

Not sure if that is a subtle brag or subtle cut.

I do remember, at one point, we were, in one category, the worst defense in the modern era of record keeping. We had the break but don't bend defense going for us.
