The reason Auburn is not on the list is because they do not include plain white T-shirts. They buy them and sharpies and make their own.

The Walmarts in Alabama are also number one in Spike 80df sales.

Bama surprises me a bit, only insomuch as Auburn is *not* on the list

Most WMs in this state that have 5-10X more Bama stuff than Auburn stuff, so not surprising.

So states with a lot of blue collar workers buy stuff at Wal Mart. Shocking. I bet West Virginia is number 2.

Why isn't Auburn on the list?

Most people raised in Alabama become a fan of either Alabama or Auburn at an early age and remain loyal throughout life. We don't have pro teams, so those teams fill that spot for us.

Your anecdote means nothing really, it's just a small sample size you see. I've known many, many Auburn fans that didn't go to Auburn, but have been fans their whole life. I'd say that's a better trait in a fan, loyalty for life.

I've also known Georgia fans, Tennessee fans, and even a Texas fan that didn't go to those schools.

Not shocking. These states also have a ton of rural areas where Walmart is the only place to shop. In Kentucky, outside of Lexington, Louisville and the suburbs of Cincinnati, there are no college apparel shops or Targets and such. Same goes for most areas of Georgia outside of the Atlanta metro, Athens, Savannah, Augusta, Columbus, Valdosta, Brunswick and Albany. I would imagine that it would apply to the other states as well.

I can happily say that I haven't stepped through the doors of a Walmart in a decade or so.

Auburn fans (at least in the major Alabama metro areas) almost always have a college degree from their university. It's the exact opposite of most Bama fans.

Correlation does not equal causation.

Do you think it's possible that the people in AL who didn't attend either university might be more prone to pick the best program in college football history over... auburn? I mean, is this a difficult choice?

Every single Auburn fan graduated from Auburn. Only one out of over a dozen Bama fans graduated from Bama... and one of the Bama fans actually graduated from Auburn.

Auburn only has 200,000 living alumni. 18% of the state are Auburn fans....out of 4 million residents & this is only their fans in Alabama, lots more in Georgia. Do the math. Every single SEC fan base is about the same when it comes to percentage of alumni
