I will never understand the yard markers at LSU. On my grandmother’s grave, I’m not intending to be insulting.

I always thought Bama's endzones were sort of bland, particularly for the last decade considering the strength of their brand. Look at a lot of those pictures you posted and most of the teams have customized their endzones to reflect their branding either via stylized fonts (LSU, Florida, Arkansas) or through other graphic branding that represents the school (Tennessee, Kentucky, Mizzou).

Although they don't seem to use it much (the script A is recognizable on its own), you'd think Bama would have implemented it's own customized wordmark font for logos etc that would work on the endzone. Honestly it seems like a natural leap to take the brand of the script A and turn that into a full script Alabama wordmark.

Or maybe just paint a nice houndstooth pattern in the endzones

Early gridiron football rules only required 5 yards for a first down. Most fields labeled yard lines every five yards, and LSU just kept theirs that way. It’s just one of those quirks we have.

See ... I had no idea.
I knew there had to be a reason.
Thank y’all for educating me!

For the record, I’m all about keepin’ your oldest and proudest traditions.
They’re what make your university what/who it is.
To heck with what others say.

Vandy would win if they used real grass. Not a fan of astroturf, oversized midfield logos like Florida or crazy font like Arkansas.

LSU-eye of the tiger is unique along with every five yards Being marked

UGA - G at the goal lines

Vols - obvi

South Carolina

The worst:

Tamu’s fake bevel T

Kentucky, Vandy. And mizzous abomination.

Fields should be N-S. UGA's is NW-SE and Auburn's is NE-SW.

One thing I like about ours is how close you are to the field. Makes it more hostile to me for visiting teams.

Yep. Love that about the Swamp. If I was designing a stadium I would put the seats as close as possible.

TS is closer than most but not Swamp close.

Now we know where the term GRIDiron came from

That is exactly where it came from.

ETA: Not specifically from LSU's field, but because all of the fields looked like that back then because of the rules.
