I posted with no comment. This was a CBS story defending his actions. Why are some of you upset with that?
It is what it is.

COMMENT: Yes it looks bad, but Alabama is above the law, Bama fan knows this and it is what it is.

I understand that, but I don't see how anyone could defend this guy with a straight face.

Whoever wrote is is only a violation if the player receives money is ignorant. Not surprised considering it is al.com, but still it is poor reporting or reading comprehension.

The relevant bylaw, 12.5.2.1 uses the word or. When it says remuneration OR to promote a commercial business in ANY way.

I would contend the use of the autograph stuff is helping to promote ole toms business.

But still, doesn't matter. I think it is pretty clear from the ncaas inaction the first time they won't act unless the first part of the bylaw is broken, payment, and there is evidence of such, which there never will be.

Everyone knows what's up, nothing gonna come of it tho.

It's clearly a way of providing extra benefits to certain players and not just suits. Again, who would hang out with a middle-aged man for small change. It will never be proven because it's well known to the compliance office and the university. If nothing was done then, nothing will be done this time. Pity that one program can keep on breaking the rules just because they have the NCAA turning a blind eye and others have to follow the rules to the letter.

Ncaa doesn't want the mess right now and especially didn't the first time around. If you follow it through to it's conclusion, it would be ugly. If you say the bylaw was violated the first time around, you at looking at at least one vacated title in 2011. Bama would have okayd inelligible players which would mean vacated games.

Long story short, the ncaa doesn't want the embarrassment.

Anyway, that is it from me on the subject tonight.

I realize that it is against the rules to promote a business and I agree that looks like that line is dangerously close to being crossed by the players in question. I've just never heard of any school ever being sanctioned for that part of the rule. It is almost always due to players getting benefits for the autographs or promotions.

Having said that, I wouldn't write off one of our jock sniffing idiot hangers on like this store owner or one of our clueless players getting caught bartering services for benefits. I wouldn't write off you ultimately getting to rub one off over a major violation at some point. You and other Auburn fans have an awfully short memory with how the NCAA usually treats us in these situations.

I'm out too. Yet the NCAA investigated AU when the bammers got suspicious that a Montgomery clothing store owner gave Cam a discount for the Heisman awards. Glass houses.

Manziel wasn't suspended for being paid (which was never proven). He was suspended for signing autographs when he knew or should have known that they would be sold.

Guy is a scum bag and the University has disavowed him.

No self respecting Alabama fan should give him any business of any kind.

Guy doesn't give a shite about anything than making a quick buck or two and doesn't care who the hell he screws over to do so.

which one is different?

No proof whatsoever (although they looked a long time) that Cam or his father ever took money from anyone.

No proof whatsoever (although he was investigated after the bammer whistleblower turned him in) that Manziel took money from autographs.

Proof (money trail, confession) that Fluker was given money by a coach - a coach now. Although it was called a loan.
